What's new?

I go to reddit.com a lot.  Too much, probably.  I actually quit it for a while, but I found myself going back.  So, I drew a little comic and posted it to reddit.  Don't know how it will be received.

Been a while since I added some music.  I have a lot on my recorder, but that's all bullshitting with the radio and the occasional song with Robert (aka Hess).  Here's a tune I recorded a few nights ago (the stripped version), and then tonight put the harmonica and hand clap on.

McGriffin Rides Again.  I'm trying to write.  It's been a while and I feel I should.  Who knows whether I'll manage to finish this one though.  I've only done two "chapters."  No reason to click the first link, it's included in the second.

I've done another Badly Drawn Cat. (Gee, it only took me 4 months to actually contribute something "new" (not counting blog posts).) Here it is alone, and as part of the entire BDC ouevre.

awbvious and Stevie Wonder -- If You Really Love Me.mp3

Listen to where he says "if you really need me," which he will three times.  Note: My psychiatrist heard the original song and also all the "if you really need me"s. He doesn't have an explaination, nor does he seem to think one should be made with any urgency.  You should hear "if you really need me" three times--or I am being censored, and you, misled.

By the way, the vr section has been updated.

So, I was smokin' and listenin' to my most recent batch of karaoke.  And while there were definitely times that I was nailing it.  I was not nailing it a lot more than I remembered.  Anyway, I was very interested in what I heard.  And started to sing along, and as mercilessly as usual, I made note of mistakes.  Which can be tedious, but sometimes, the two meld.  Sometimes my second take sounds worse.  I just hear imperfections, you might enjoy it.  It's me singing along to my own sung-to-karaoke songs, for about an hour and sixteen minutes.

Monday, March 21, 2011 4:08 AM

So, pretty much all of these are from the Legends series of karaoke.  Except for a few, like two or three, of the first few karaoke songs I recorded.  (The karaoke songs start at February 27th, ignoring the pandora--that's not karaoke.)  They are mostly first takes.  A few of the songs labeled "2" (for the most part) are with "vocal styling"--i.e. they don't go like the original.  This is not always successful, so you are warned.  A lot of the 2's, though, are just second passes in the traditional style.

First of all, an edit of the Mike Beaumea song.  I took out the intro and exit. [EDIT 1/3/11: The other guys are Victor (drums) and Johnny Metina (bass).  I don't know Victor's last name, and I'm guessing at Johnny's last name spelling.]

It's short.  It's not even something I did alone.  Lot of great guys on this.  I don't know how to spell the guitarists name.  And I don't know the names of, well, I do know the basist, but it brings up the weird question of where do i draw the line on psuedonyms?  I give them to everyone on my blog, except for one or two exceptions that I really regret.  But then again, sometimes people want to see their name online, even if it is on something like this.  My point of view, if this song goes viral, I will hunt down every musician on it.  I know what they look like, and I know where they'll be.  This is assuming I also make money off of something viral.  It could just get lost in obscurity, which is pretty much the fate of everything to date, so I don't even know why i'm stressing it.  Fuck it, I'll just leave the file name the way it is.  But there are a lot more guys than just the guitarist--who has a brief speaking part at beginning and end.

Monday, June 14, 2010 0:42 AM

Check it out, I had a bad ass on guitar and another bad ass on bass, and I played rhythm guitar. They were willing to just go with whatever I wanted to play. I'm an idiot, so I only wanted to play three chords. G-C-D-and then back to G. They added all the interesting bits on guitar (phil) and bass (rob). So, we recorded that (and there will be a link to that in the vr section very soon) and today I took that three chord song and I wrote some lyrics to it, then I recorded myself singing those lyrics a bunch of times. Then I mixed it all together (in the pathetic way I always do). Which is take each cut and pan it left, left 50%, middle, right 50%, or right. I do that for five of the takes, then I do one last "improv"esque take which I just bump up 3 decibles. And voila:

http://www.awbvious.com/audio/awbvious%20phil%20and%20rob%20-%20clouds%202.mp3

Clouds

CHORUS
Clouds roll in, feel so good
Doin' everything like I know I should
Feelin' good, feelin' high
Feelin' like I own the sky
Clouds roll in, feel so good
Doin' everything like I know I should
Feel so good, feels so right
Feel like everything's taken on flight

I love her so, her name is Mary
Her last is Jane, she's quite contrary
She'll make you feel good, when you feel like shit
She'll get you high with just a hit
Then maybe another and another and another
Then another and another I'm tellin' ya brother

CHORUS

I'm so high, I can't look down
I'm ready to fly, there is no doubt
I feel so good, I feel so fine
I feel like everything's already mine
I own the land, I own the sea
I own it all so naturally

CHORUS

There ain't no reason to feel like poor
There ain't no reason for that any more
There ain't no reason to feel no stress
There ain't no reason for that no less
We got it all, it's all wrapped up
Me, Rob, and Phil, we got enough

I'm so high, I can't look down
Feel like nothin' on the ground
I feel a cold, gentle wind
I feel it comin' on again
I feel the sun on my face
It feels so good it can't be replaced

CHORUS

Now's the time for the end of this song
I hope it didn't go on too long
I hope you liked it, had a good time
Hope it left you feelin' fine
Now I'm just going to repeat the chorus
About seven more times I hope it doesn't bore us

CHORUS

Merry Christmas!  I just finished updating the VR Page.  I also took all the songs with markers and made a playlist that goes back to the beginning of the vr project, a little over a year ago.  Check it out!  Hit random and trip out!

I just got a new voice recorder.  Another olympus, last week I went and tried it out on Main Street.  Here's one of the songs.

I don't know when I'll be able to fix them, but I know all the writing I have doesn't view right.  All the special characters, quotation marks, double spaces, em-dashes, etc. in my writing wasn't done properly and so it all comes out as question marks when viewed in a browser.  The only way it works (for me) is to view the files locally.  So, for those who really want to read all that stuff, I have zipped it and you can view it that way. (perversity, perversity2, and romance seem to be fine.)  (By the way, this is old, well, I added it a couple of weeks ago to vr, but might as well mention it here, just a playlist of some voice recorder songs that got markers.)

I know I shouldn't.  I should save this and use it or parts or something.  I spent months on this thing.  I shouldn't just toss it into cyberspace.  But I am going to.  I'm so sick of the damn thing.  It's really ridiculous, not very good.  I don't even know why I wrote it.  But here.  I'm sick of it.  You deal with it.

The VR project is coming along nicely.  I'm thinking of only doing a year of it, since I'm running out (if not going over) the amount of server space for it.  Maybe I'll record it all and wait until some day when I can afford to put it online.  Anyway, one of the most recent additions (well, will be as soon as I update the VR page) is this "cover" of "Because of You" by Ne-Yo.  I did it using the Eric Darius version that was playing on the radio (the Wave 94.7) when I was driving on the freeway earlier today.  Anyway, I recorded it and knew it was good, much like a lot of other songs I've done with the voice recorder (Olympus VM-3100, btw).  Yep, it's got the sound of the freeway in it, you can even hear two cars go by if you notice carefully.  Luckily, I played the music loudly and sang loudly.  I keep listening to it.  It's so cool (in my own opinion).  I'm really curious what the Ne-Yo version sounds like now, it's been months since I've heard it last.  And I've heard it only five times at most.  But the chorus is so catchy I got it immediately.  Of course, I was doing this on the fly.  I'd heard the Eric Darius version many times before, so I knew where all the music was going, but I had no idea what the words were to the verses.  So I made them up on the spot.  All those months of freestylin' to jazz helped immensely.  Somehow, I actually managed to pull off at least a slant rhyme off of each line.  Anyway, I almost didn't find this song, since I went immediately onto recording the next song, making two markers only before the words started to Louis Armstrong's What A Wonderful World (which is what is starting at the end of the song, me, I'd recognize it immediately, but you might not).  Anyway, (by the way, I'm listening to the song over and over as I'm writing this--that's what I do with a song I really like, and it's a song I did! well the singing at least) I only got in two markers, which are quick 1 second recordings after what I consider a good take.  I don't always have time to make the markers since the very next song might be coming up.  Anyway, a few more not so spectacular takes and a song comes on that makes me want to try something different.  Namely, instead of freestylin on the jazz I made noises with my toungue.  After it was done I wasn't really sure if it was worth any markers.  So I immediately put in my car adapter into my tape deck and play back that song.  And I wasn't exactly impressed, but felt it was worth the extra markers anyway.  But while I had the adapter in it, I thought I'd listen to that cover of Ne-Yo a few songs back, and was immediately relieved that you could hear the background music at good enough level.  And then I listened to my singing, apprehensively to see if I fuck up somewhere that I just didn't remember.  After all, I was high.  As I am now.  Damn this song is good.

None of that made sense probably.  I changed all the "awbvious -- Sound" files to 160 from 320 kbps, saving myself 5 gigs so I can update vr as I normally do.  Visit vr, it's probably new voice recorder stuff, then it's a matter of digging through the miscellaneous bin that is my every recorded sound.

Monday, March 16, 2009 10:18 PM

So, I was going to just go through and find the old files by the modified date--but ZUNE, the sob, ended up doing something, not sure what, but it changed all the modified dates, now everything is listed alphabetically.  So...  Well, wait, I do use the "Year" ID3 tag.  So I could theoretically still change the bitrates of pre-2006.  But first, I thought of a much better way to make some space for all my voice recorder files--there's a lot, but they're tiny.  Hmm, apparently a lot of my files are of all sorts of bitrates, I thought the majority at least would be 320...  Wondering if this has something to do with Zune, they said they'd convert my files' bitrates to play on the zune--I thought they'd convert only the files on the zune itself, not in my collection!  I haven't even bothered to use the zune to listen to my own music anyway.  Stupid Zune, I could make a better interface, what the fuck is wrong with using windows?  And letting me choose by folder?  And letting me sort by modified date?  And letting me choose by file name instead of ID3 tags that can be fucked up to hell?  And no, when Zune tries to fix them, it does not always do a good job.  I only got the damn thing because it's the highest capacity mp3 player that isn't an ipod.  Damn, this file converter I'm trying to use to convert these files--the ones I made over that week or two I had the house to myself--is slower than molasses.  It hasn't even loaded all the damn songs for conversion.  Switched to something different RazorLame...  But it's taking some time too...  But you know what, I'm converting from 320 to 160, and the whole thing is 10 gigs.  That means 5 more gigs!  More than enough for my voice recorder project.  Uh...  They say this is going to take 3 hours...  Well, it will be soon.

Thursday, March 12, 2009 3:05 PM

I'm going to have to reduce the bitrate of some of the older files.  I'm thinking anything pre-2006.  If you want premium-quality bitrate for any song pre-2006, you can email me.  Believe it or not, I do not get that many emails. Anyway, I want to give a taste of what your missing.  More of me on voice recorder.  Most times I fuck up at least once a song, hey, I don't have the words in front of me and the song just instantaneously came on the radio.  These are two times I did not fuck up.

Due to server size issues, I must get rid of some stuff, I am sorry.  But the lord on high (who runs my server) has determined it.  So from now on, no more video on the site (I will upload to youtube in the future--my old video was crap anyway) and no more wav's.  320 kpbs is practically wav quality anyway.

I've updated the links below, also have completed the voice recorder page:

http://www.awbvious.com/vr.htm

So remember those covers of bob dylan I posted earlier? Ignore them, for the last month or so I've been working furiously to make pretty much completely new versions. Almost all of these have new takes. These are like 4th or 5th version of edits in some cases, if I had the inclination, I'd give you all the various edits, but here's what I consider the "final" cuts. Hope you like it! (You don't care. I know. I work my ass off on these, but no one cares.)

[Edit Wednesday, January 7, 2009 4:18 AM -- I am adding two more songs 38 and 39.  The reason being if you put 1-20 on a CD (you can fit them if you don't use silence gaps between songs) you can fit 21-39 on the other (again, if you don't have silence gaps between songs).  Also, I'm adding the "with Dylan" versions, here you get to hear the songs mixed with the original songs, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.]

Same thing, just as one big zip file (500 megs)... I'm finally listening to it, some are kinda interesting.

So I bought a digital voice recorder September 14th, and I've been using it to record myself on the way to work or whatever, usually freestylin' to 94.7 or 88.1. Or I'd be at Guitar Center fucking about on instruments. Or sometimes standing on main street with my guitar and harmonica, playing along with whatever was on the radio. But mostly I was freestylin' over jazz. Making songs up on the fly. Some of these might be pretty good... Maybe not, I haven't heard any of them. But being the kind of artist I am, I'm just going to put every last one of them online. And see if anything sticks. Probably not, I'll probably have to listen to them myself and mention the best ones, but anyway, they're all very small files. They all average about 2 meg, except for a few of the last ten. I was getting impatient filling it up, so I did some long ones that I made in the last two or three days.

awbvious -- cover stevie songs 3 takes.mp3

Wednesday, October 15, 2008 1:24 AM

Remember when I tossed those 4 vocal take dylan covers at you? Sure you do, it was at the beginning of the month. Too bad it was absolute crap. that's because i just took each 2 and a half hour take and mixed it with the other three. No adjustments whatsoever.

So, that was unacceptable, and I know it, since the volumes varied wildly and it just sounded horrible, and etc. I really should delete it, but I also don't care terribly. Anyway, I decided to try to fix them up a little, which meant going through each song, individually, and changing the volume. That's when I realized how much audio bleeded onto the tracks because I (heh, blood on the tracks), I was wearing goddamn earbuds. So, I spent countless hours trying to find out how to isolate vocals...

And of course, you can't, I get the "you can't unbake a cake" metaphor a lot, whereever I search. So, the only thing I could do was "noise removal" and it makes things sound robotic, and not in that vocoder way, which i don't particularly like, but at least wouldn't sound like I just fucked-up, which is exactly what I did. Some, I just said, fuck it, there's so much bleeding and the underlying take is so sung quietly, fuck it, just fuck it. So you'll hear a guitar every once in a while. That's not me. I wish it was, because I can play guitar, but I had to do these at work, the only place I have left to record. And I'd raise a bit of suspicion strolling into work with a big old 6-string under my arm. I mean, I don't charge them for the time I spend recording in the middle of the night, but I'm not exactly supposed to be doing it either.

God, I wish I had my own place again. Anyway, here's the damn thing, as individual songs (some are better than others, of course), and as a big enchilada. I don't know why they use that expression, burritos are generally bigger than enchiladas. The only thing I did was stay consistant on panning. I panned left on the first take (a "singing" track), panned right on the third take (another "singing" track, but I was using another pair of earbuds, and apparently they were complete shit, since they bled like a hemopheliac), then I took the two "instrumental" tracks (which is just me making "bops" and "woos" and clicks and "ch-ch" sounds with my voice) and kept them on the center. Then I changed the volume of the entire track, or sometimes even bothered to silence spots, but that only happened on like two tracks (lay lady lay, and something else, I think--I'm listening to lay lady lay right now, it's so fucked, i probably shoulda done at least some noise removal on those parts that had bleeding, but i didn't want to screw up the vocal and make it sound robotic, this whole ordeal has been a disaster for the most part), otherwise I just did a volume change to the entire track. God this took so fucking long, I hate audio editting. I'm finally listeninng to it, and no, the satisfaction of having something listenable is not making it all feel worthwhile. Maybe if I had more people listening, or telling me they listened, to this damn site, I'd actually care.

Anyway, first track I did kinda faithfully, with harmonica, an easily smuggled instrument. For the third take, I decided to whistle the parts and sing it as higher notes. Also, two songs only have two tracks because I screwed up and didn't copy the files over when I moved them from my mp3 player to my computer, and only realize it later.Anyway, I bought some damn headphones so I won't have this bleeding situation in the future, but I really apologize for the tracks that sound like crap because of the "noise removal" tool I used which sucked, especially on the "instrumental" tracks which sound quieter than others. Nonetheless, some of this is kinda good. The rest is just fucked. Anyway, I suggest you just start the incredibly slow download of the last on this list, and then decide whatever is good enough to download individually from this list. But I'm talking to no one, even spiders ignore me.

Well, I would tell you to compare these to the ones I did in 2005, but I didn't exactly link to them correctly, and they were only in wav form... Very smooth of me, I know. So, I went and save them all as mp3s. So first the 2005 covers. Then the 2008 covers I made out of the four takes I made (2 vocal, 2 harmonica). I actually took the time to actually pick the best takes and mix them individually. Something I hate doing, took so fucking long. Then if you want, you can listen to the two new takes as a full mp3 "covers new 2."

So, I finally had the place to myself a few weeks ago (parents were out of town for a few weeks). And that meant I could finally record for the first time in, well, years. All this stuff needs to be edited, hell they aren't even labeled, they're just given the automatic numbering of recording (and no, there isn't any Sound 1 or 3, this is everything and anything I recorded during those glorious days of independence, that are now long gone, I don't know what happened to Sound 37k, I may have lost that one). It's just me with the radio (which means, of course, that all of this is for educational or research purposes only, and not for sale or resale). I'm sorry some of these will have horribly low audio, you'll have to be able to bump it up yourself, or just move on to the next one. Anyway, I'm dividing these by day recorded (or rather the day saved, which is almost always actually the day after). Hell, I haven't even listened to a single one of these. Each one is about 2 hours long (which is the longest you can save 24-bit wav files with the program I'm using--these are 320 kbps mp3s, approx 250 mb each). The second week of recording (32-50) I even have some video of (perhaps even of 37k, if it is indeed missing), though god knows when I will get to editing that together.

[EDIT Thursday, April 2, 2009 1:17 AM: These have all been converted to 160 kbps to save server space.  Seriously, it's like 10 gigs, now I have 5 more.]

Some more Sam Cooke with the Soul Stirrers.  This time it's video.  (Hates to put video of himself up...)  Not saying it's good, but I got to start doing it.  20 takes filmed and then mixed together.  Yes, I used every take I filmed.  I don't know if it's good, I couldn't decide on what to keep...  If you're wondering why I'm moving around in one of the middle shots, it's because I'm looking for my harmonica (which I find and use in the next take).  Man, I don't know why I'm doing this...  Oh, yeah, because I put in the time already.

So a few days ago, I got a call from someone who said I'm going to need something original and within the billboard top 40, top 100, even, to get a record deal.  Of course, I think the billboard goes by album sales, but maybe it takes into its calculations how often it's played on the radio stations.  And like I proclaimed a few entries below, all deejays can play my music with no royalties, except if there are original artists who might need royalties--this is completely my own original creation.  First attempt, took me an hour, and I like it, so play it deejays, and maybe i'll be less unknown.

By a lucky coincidence (and I do hope it is a coincidence--since my mom is the only person I've...  well, I guess there's no more secrets any more to conceal, but still...), whatever the case, she brought out from storage my camera bag which happened to have the two things I was needing yesterday.  So I took some fuller-length pictures in my room, and then photoshopped the background out of the best one.  So, voila, here's what those 155 (154, actually, to be precise, I weighed myself earlier today) pounds look like.

awbviouscropped.jpg

Thursday, September 28, 2006 9:23 PM

I had to take some pictures of myself.  This one is the best that came out, considering the fact that both the camera's remote control (which limits me to close-up of the face) and the memory card reader (which limits the pixel dimensions that can be transferred via firewire) are both in storage, and i have no idea where in storage.  Anyway, here I am, all 27 years and long hair, the rest of me is 6'1" and 155 pounds of flesh, bones, and pale skin.

Made out of five vocal takes and one harmonica (key c) take, a cover of As (Always) by Stevie Wonder.  I wonder what Stevie would think of the harmonica addition, since this one of his songs that doesn't normally have harmonica.  I think I'll dedicate this to Stevie Wonder, himself.  It's mind boggling that so much timeless, great music can come out of just one man, it really is a wonder.

[EDIT Tuesday, October 3, 2006 2:44 PM: sorry i had to replace the link, because i accidently left the speakers on, and i didn't realize, so i got a bit of the original audio in it, though it's so quiet you wouldn't realize, but anyway, i redid it, this time 5 vocals, 1 harmonica, and 1 beat take--which is percussion take with vocals.]

So I tried to do a 2 hour take a few weeks ago, but my mom interrupted it half way.  So I tried it again a few hours ago, trying to be quiet since it is, well, late, and again, my mom interrupted half way through, a stop in the name of sleep thing.  But i figured what the hey, i'll mix the two interrupted takes and hear what that sounded like.  Nothing sounded perfect, but I did like the way the Billy Stewart version of Summertime mixed.  So, I'm just going to give you that one song.  Well, two actually, the one everyone knows and a longer version after it, but i decided to put the longer version before the shorter, and i like it, it mixed well.  The rest needs fixing, but these two vocal takes mixed in a nice way, so:

I'm sick of being unknown, and I need some "publicity."  As I think it might be necessary, just so i can get some donations, my donations have stayed at a whopping five bucks (minus paypal transaction fee).  So, I've decided that all the music I've recorded so far, and until then end of 2006--i'll have to see how useful this decision has been, and whether i should change my mind--can be played entirely royalty free (royalties to me, not necessarily original artists of my song covers, who may require royalties even though I don't use a single note of the originals in any of my covers).  Thanks, much love, awbvious.

Yeah, i'm too tired to bother with all the various takes and whatnot and plethora of bit worth.  But i do want to get something out before i go to sleep.  And I've recorded three new takes, as mentioned on sunday a "backup" which does backup lyrics and mostly higher tone notes (usually with the word "da").  A "percussion" which is just me making clicking noises with my tongue (i think i may have misspelt that, making "tsk" sounds).  And finally a "bass" which has no lyrics but gets the lower tone notes (with the "word" "bah").  The stuff below is bumped 6 decibles, the stuff added was not bumped, and the perc take was actually dropped 6 decibles.  Which gives you this (i'll add links, .mp3 at least, for the two new--tsk & bah--takes, like, tomorrow, probably), i may also be renaming the links, who knows, i never do, until i've done it, of course:

Scroll down to July 23 to find the first take--which was done back when the blog was green--it also tells at what samples each song begins.  Sure, i suppose i could just put an anchor...  But whatever.  I'm not /that/ much different.  But if you're curious, i'll give you this second take, as recorded at my parents house in orange county.  But i think the two mixed together is so better than the single take, so i'm absconding the titles and relinking to the mix.  The "second take" is there just if your curious, if you want to see for yourself the difference of colors (grey versus green).  But the mix of green and grey sounds pretty good, so i'm making it the official "treat her like a lady album."  Dedicated, still, to all women, but in particular, ... SHOOT, gall-darned sprinklers, you can write "do not disturb" on sticky, but that doesn't exactly guarantee...  Hmm, seems like the whole last 30 minutes got sprinkled upon.  DOGGONEIT and other things i could say, but i feel weird even swearing in typing while i'm here.  Anyway, here's the links.  Dedicated, again, to all women, but in particular african-american women.  Freakin' sprinklers, butterscotch! muffins! rassin' frazin'!  (I need to get out of the OC!)

[EDIT Sunday, September 17, 2006 6:23 PM: of course i can't leave the sprinklers in.  so i redid the second half, and i also recorded a back-up doowopesque take.  The one with the sprinklers is called "two takes" the one with the second half is called "one take and two half takes."   And the one with both half takes, the original take from july, and with my back-up are these first links without "takes" in the filenames. EDIT Tuesday, September 19, 2006 2:32 PM: I got rid of the first links, so i could reuse the filenames above.]

Dedicated to the man i covered, ray charles, and specifically, to anyone who has the blues.  one take, vocal, alternating with whistling.  [EDIT Monday, September 4, 2006 12:32 PM, man that sucked just as bad as last time, further proof that you need more than just the blues to sing blues, and i'm not saying my soul exists only in a bong, but this house is not good for recording.  i coulda mixed it with the original did a take and mixed the two together, but i thought, what with my clear head and all...  What with not having smoked herb in over a month...  That i could just play the original take, which had to be better than i remembered--was worse actually--and sing along with it.  it sounds like crap, i think.  but still dedicated to those with the blues...  i suggest you get a copy of the original if you do have the blues, he was a genius, after all--man... i don't get it, i don't even bother with the white horse of heroin, and still i can't do a little mary now and then?  this would have been a lot better had my life not turned to shit recently, and it was still my perogative, and not some bullshit.  tellin' me i can't ever have weed again, fuck that.  but i don't know when i'll have my life back, if ever.  all i know is if i had some money, i'd buy a big house--no, rather, a big plot of land and a small house--and security could watch me, make sure i didn't do anything too crazy, since people are so fucking worried evidently--and i could take my normal breakfast, pop open a few red bulls and smoke a few bowls, and this woulda sounded a lot better i think.  But hey, what do i know?  I ain't got nothin' but the blews.  Blues too, but i blew it more than anything.  man, i want my life back.  i'm so not going to get it either.  so, an exercise in futility, a waste of my time, but i couldn't stop it since i did have to tell my mom an hour of recording was all i was going to do.  this sounds like such shit...  But hey, maybe i'll have that big wide open space, where no one could get to me, no one could play any auditory cues to return any post-hypnotic pain, or however it is that i go through that.  since others can find me so easily, and perhaps that info is already all over...  OH, by the way, remember that bit about not wanting to sue anyone?  That's only if i get paid for all the footage taken of me, and i meant for it all to be seen, but if you don't want to show it, and just amassed it, and intend not at all to pay me for any of it...  This much blues?  Yeah, i'll sue your fucking pants off if i can.  Because the only way i can see myself getting better is to be truly isolated from the wackos of the world that want to hurt me.  But you get me that 10 million dollar lot in the middle of L.A., and pay for all the security, and a 100,000 house with all my stuff so far, and give me a million a year for the rest of my life...  And i'll consider it even.  Otherwise, that's my intention for litigation, since i need that isolation with protection as my restitution.  but that's only if you're not going to pay me for all that time you've had to watch me fall to this horrible nadir in my life.  i meant for that to be seen, so you know.  the people watching me were very nice people, i thought, and still do, i don't want their money, but somebody better give me some, for all i know is i wouldn't be in this fucking house, with my mom, so close to neighbors who might have found out the auditory cues that can hurt me, do i trust all my neighbors?  Hell no.  I can't believe i was attacked at all, but i do know i did go through some major shit.  And i better get paid for it, otherwise, you really think you can cover your ass that well?  So well that some lawyer of slightly better repute, if that, won't contact me and say, 'hell yeah you've got a case here to sue someone's pants off?'  i don't think so, or else i wouldn't have gotten attacked in the first place.  So, you best show that footage, and make me somewhere near that amount--at least--for it, or i wouldn't be surprised to hear johnny cochran himself call me up.  So fuckin' do the fuckin' right thing, all-fuckin'-ready.  The sooner i'm in that 10 million dollar, huge expanse of land, 15 minutes away at-the-most by car from downtown LA or SD, and receiving my first million for this bullshit, the better.  i may have no ambition as far as litigation is concerned, but you ask yourself what lawyer wouldn't like a chunk of the money i could probably sue y'all for.  That said, johnny cochran, if you're out there...  i won't cut my hair, but i'll look as nice as possible for my court date.]

I don't know why the songs didn't sound the same, i don't think my version of white lines by melle mel and grandmaster flash (and the furious five, i presume, but don't know, and i don't feel like finding out) leaves out the part about politicians and governors and business men with 5 kilos.  but whatever.  maybe i'm crazy, i don't feel like right now even going through and giving everyone their proper props, and this only the first half of the modern sounds of soul.  But i'm dedicating it to all the artists i've covered, who are, in this order: montel jordan, r kelly, jagged edge w nelly, ron isley w r kelly and faith evans (i believe, maybe its isley brothers, not just ron), ruff endz, jaheim, ll cool j, bel biv devoe (i thought it was bel, maybe it's bell, i think i've got it mislabeled), n2deep, tony toni tone, big daddy kane, oran "juice" jones, pharcyde, tony tone toni (see, one of these is clearly mislabeled on my end, but i really don't feel like finding out), grandmaster flash and the furious five, and grandmaster flash and melle mel.  I'm not sure on spelling not sure on quite a bit of things.  For one, where did all those lyrics to white lines go?  Did they just blow away?  Am i crazy, or was there really someone singing along to these songs besides me?  did someone change them, why?  why won't anyone tell me?  Does anyone care about the thoughts and makings of a probably schytsophrenic person anyway?  if not, then, oh well.  if so:

The words aren't right, but whatever, dedicated to ian anderson...  And, oh, let's say...  Felines of all kinds.  just one take, whistling or vocals, no promises of any value, just doing something since i'm in prison-best-so-far, but far from freedom.  don't spend too long trying to figure out the words, get the words yourself, and the songs, the originals.  Which is "The Very Best of Tull" and "Repeat: The Very Best of Tull," I believe, two CDs that helped me survive high school.  Since i'm in the high school prison, i thought why not.  [EDIT Saturday, August 26, 2006 9:51 PM: i did another take, so here they are together, mixed.  oh and i'd still like ian to sign a Lee Oskar--key of C or G or both--for me, i really appreciate him signing my suzuki--but suzukis suck.]

Okay, NOW, i'm satisfied (enough, for now).  Last time, i thought it was all gonna upload all nice like, but no.  So, instead, i'm going to do this peace-meal.  or piece-meal, your choice.  Regardless, first the mp3.   I redid the vocals and mixed it with the guitar from yesterday.  I'm very happy with this one, i even listened to a full minute of it, usually i only listen to 10 or 15 seconds, as that's about as much as i can stand of myself.  But this is much better, still same dedicants.

So much better, i mean, still not finished, but such an improvement, i want to take out the links to the inferior mixes of the 13th.  I've still got to redo the vocals, once i got the lyrics down.  And i'm still finding out what chord goes for what song (no, they don't all belong in E).  But this is the first take, plus some guitar takes, plugged accoustic, individual notes as opposed to chord(s), mixed together.  Individual notes are more "to ear," like when i play harmonica, and easier to anticipate and replicate than chords (even when it's just one chord--hell if i know which songs and when, though).  Still in progress but more befitting in quality (of course, i've only heard about 10 seconds of it, but i'm still pretty sure of this, in relation to last thursday's at least) to the dedicants (which/whom are the same).  (The first take is 16-bit for burning to cd, should you want to do such a thing.)  Much love to all.

I haven't even listened to this yet.  It's just one take, 30 minutes long, 12 songs, alternating vocal and harmonica, in the order of, and according to, the album I'm a Man by Bo Diddley.  This is one of my favorite albums of all time, right up there with One More River.  But I've not yet covered this album, though, because, as silly as it seems, since I really can't see a man like Bo actually using the word "rubbish," well, except when in rome and amongst the romans, I would still hate for him to use the aforementioned to describe any of my attempts.  The man is still performing today.  And that, if nothing else, is reason enough for him to be a sole dedicant.  It's just me, singing along, switching off with my c harmonica, for thirty minutes.  Now, I ain't but twenty-seven, don't you know baby, I can take you to heaven...  I didn't know diddley back when I was twenty-two, or when twenty-one, it's a shame but it's true...  Now, I'm gonna crawl into my bed, until the day i can say, oh boy, i'm high again...  Little girl, i'm freakin' poor, it's true...  (Still lookin' out for those four headlights, one of these days, or rather, nights.)  Doo da doo da doo da doo da doo-oo ah doo wah.

This is a hand-drawn (1600x zooming on original image, using a mouse, "drawing" white pixels on a layer above it, then inverting that layer, and placing it against white) monochromatic recreation of part of what i believe is the original artwork for the Sam Cooke with The Soul Stirrers "One More River" album, I do not know the original artist.  A search-for-image on google for "Sam Cooke" "One More River" (using those quoation marks) can get you the original.  But it was not so much about recreating the visual artwork, more about the musicians and the album, as that was my provocation.   i've done many vocal covers of Sam Cooke and The Soul Stirrers' One More River album, and will certainly do more.

Cover of Michael Jackson.  Dedicated to "a fine girl."  And by "fine," to quote James Brown: "She's fine as wine, she's just my kind, that ever-so-fine, wanna make me blow my mind."  And in that spirit, the curious can hear the making of, i.e. the whole "take."  A take, as i refer to it, is usually a one or more songs repeated, lasting on average an hour.  This take, like most, is first preceded with a 2-million-samples-long (approx 45 seconds) intro, a time gap I give myself to get situated for recording, after synching with the mixer.  After that, the song (which lasts 9,730,472 exactly samples) plays 16 times, which creates 16 subtakes.  Of those 16 subtakes, i used 10 subtakes to make the mix, occassionally swapping left and right on subtakes, bumping 6 decibles here and there.  A couple of hours ago had i decided i wanted to record this.  Now, now I'm finished enough that I can sleep.

Be gentle.  This is the first time attempting to cover these songs, all from the same first take.  I just fiinished getting down the lyrics, and i was tired, and i thought, what the hell, and then i mixed it, and i'm not, like, this is polished and perfect, but i am still, what the hell.  So, what the hell, these are ready yet.  In awbvious.com nothing has to be perfect right away, sometimes right away is perfect enough.  If you like crude earthenware, or a thatched chair, in a bedroom in arles, beauty comes disguised maybe with a few nicks and sometimes not always right away.  But when in love, very little can bring me down.  And i only was willing to admit it, when at the bottom, since i had nothing to hold on to, and it was so hard, saying it to myself over and over, every day, and not to her, a man of honesty, it makes me weaker.  And now, the world has changed none, except for three words, for her to see, to put in her mind, for her to hopefully think at night, to make her feel special about herself, maybe console her if she gets lonely, and maybe give her strength enough to take chances if her heart finally decides it's been too long denied.  I had nothing, and so far nothing has changed, except now, not always, but when i think of the potential of those words and who they're for, and how long its taken for them to be so very true, then i feel like i have everything.  And though these songs were not picked for her, she shares dedication for all of them.  The rest of the dedication belongs to for whom the songs were picked, naturally.  Covers of SWV, Phil Phillips, and Marvin Gaye, respecively.

Dedicated to mi poca estrella, mi estrellita, my thuroughly exquisite, the once known as the gwsmu, now should she be known as the witowisntm.  The "woman i think of when i sing never too much."  By luther vandross.  you know, i will always remember the day and where i was driving when i heard smokey robinson on the LA old school station say luther had passed on, and with him, smokey's favorite male vocalist.  With much respect i offer this humble version.  But note the quotation marks for the top link, for i am not finished.   This won't be the last you'll hear of ntm.  this is only the beginning.

awbvious -- never too much cover.mp3 (final, "finished" version, used the harmonica parts from the remix, and for the vocal parts i slap-mix warts-n-all every repetition of three takes--each take having about 10 repetitions.)
awbvious -- never too much cover firstmix.mp3 (first attempt, made entirely from second take)
awbvious -- never too much cover remix.mp3 (the first mix, mixed with some parts of the third take)

Still dedicated to the one who's got me silly...  For now...  Maybe...  Oh, this remix will always be dedicated to she who has been my sole dedicant for quite a few months now.  The "for now" is because i will very likely always be silly for someone.  But i of course hope to be most silly for she who'll be most silly for me.  The "maybe" is maybe she now, could someday be that she then, which is probably most silliest of all.  But frankly, if I eventually get and give reciprocal love, and she then is at least as deserving as she now, then she now (whoever she be--as far as in relation to she then) deserves, well...  At least, always, these dedications.

[EDIT Thursday, May 4, 2006 4:27 AM: didn't like it, so i recorded some new vocals.  Things may 4th are different than things may 2nd, and now, now i completely dedicate to her, her now, however she is, regardless, and the thens, matter me not, in a very, very good way quite contrary to the acceptance of compromise/defeat/limitations, indeed--still i reached inside, since my takes were hollow, for a bit of that pain i'm now healing, and that's when i got the take i wanted.]

Dedicated to my mom, and all mamas.  The .wav is 16-bit and ready for burning to CD.  I want to listen to this song on "repeat."  I never want to hear my own stuff on "repeat."  That's a good sign.  ...  Damn, this is me?  Well, i guess there's just something about heart-felt lyrics.  Oh, so, of course, this is a cover of the Intruders song, the Gamble and Huff masterpiece, "I'll Always Love My Mama."  And I will.

Thursday, April 20, 2006 8:16 AM

As my fans know, i usually do something on today, and this 420 was/is no exception.  At a little bit after midnight on today a day of festivities for many, i started recording, i hammered them out 5 one hour takes.  My voice is gone.  I'm sore.  And i'm tired.  I'll be getting up later to enjoy more of today, as if it were, you know, Thursday (thursday being, as it were, one of the seven days of the week i spend thusly).  So, anyway, i'm giving you this to enjoy for today, lots of a propos rips and whatnot in it.  i haven't gotten to listen to it all the way through, but i think its a smash, well, i know it's a smash, because you know, do your thing, know where it's at...  Oh am I stoned to the bone.  Time to sleep, then it'll be time again...  i didn't dedicate this mix to the one i've dedicated just about all the others of the past few months.  But that doesn't mean she's not beautiful, just means, it's been more than a month since i've heard even a word, but i'll say she's beautiful--and if she doesn't want me to tell the world of the relief when she does give me a word, i'd be fine with that--just let me know, beautiful.  In the meantime, well, i'm sure she's just busy, which is why when she's less so, i'm sure i'll have more dedications, al though, i do hope by then to have someone, like, who appreciates me and gives a damn when i dedicate things.  but hey, even she said i deserve someone who appreciates me.  ah, but don't we all deserve someone who'll appreciate them?  but do you think if I thought she was being appreciated enough--or that i wasn't--that I'd have dedicated nearly as much, for as long as i did, and probably again?  if you do, that's cool, i'm not out to make anyone understand me, i'm just out to make music good enough to make me happy, and i know she gives a damn, so i'm gonna dedicate a part of this to her, for ol' times sake, as that's what it's feeling like, but that's alright.  Hey, lighten up yo, it's 420, blaze it.

so it's like 5 am and i'm like faded...  i mean, just off the usual red bull and green, but still, what was i thinking... you might think, he's thinking "how many bong rips can you get into a song?"  But really i wasn't.  Just one of those miracles of mixing.  damn can she mix now.  i did this all in two hours, i go first take left, second take right, mix third on lft, mix fourth or right, so forth, then mix nineth (cause that's when i was satisfied i had done it well it enough and had enough... um... instrumentals...) over both.  Now you might not believe me pure hapenstance made it so the bong rips worked with the music like the cannons of the 1812 overture, i only listened to it once, i'm tired, sleep.  But, if i'm correct, i don't think one rip overlapped, so weird...  You can hear it for yourself, and prove it to yourself, i'll uncharacteristically give you the full take (since by character, i always wait till the perfect finished product...  or until i'm tired).  me sleep.  i'll wake up wondering what i was thinking, but hey, maybe you can use it in your playlist for thursday--i'm sure i'll regret it before then, or forget it, one or the other.... ... sleeeeeep.  Sunday, April 16, 2006 6:23 AM...  i normally don't double time stamp, but look at that hour, tell me i'm to be held accountable for anything done at this hour...  No, please don't...  let's just not bring up accountability, slee. puh.. seeee see sleeeeeppp  i also took my zoloft, all that herb with my redbull would just have me revved up to do another take of something worse.  but the zol hits how it should, and i'm, smack smack, off to sleep...  i don't need to wake up to think "what am i thinking?"  but really how many bong rips are there, i don't know, that many too many, definitely, but like i fucking care...  anyway, it's a cover of N2Deep.

My heart's going a bit fast...  I know this is the biggest thing I've ever done or contributed online...  Or ever.  I figure, on the anniversary of when I last updated my index, why not?  I know my renditions are just fanfare, but this, this is actually a contribution to the world.  And whether i wanted it to be that way or not, once i make it, my mark upon it, it will be indelible.  For that is the way of the internet.  Knowledge can not be suppressed.  I do this, as i do all my art, out of love, for all, above all.  Tupac Shakur was the best male poet since Shakespeare, so it makes sense he read Shakespeare in prison.  My only other favorite poet was another wrote from a place of emprisonment, with bars I best understand, perhaps that's why I yearn for Emily Dickenson from the grave (she's morbid, she'd dig it).  Anyway, 2pac was a genius.  The best rapper is undeniable.   Perhaps even the best poet ever.

So I bring you, 4 months in the making...

Not to say this is a final cut, you'll look at it and say, what's different?  It's not what i did different, its what i attempted, and i attempted a lot.  but really it's what's different, which is nothing, but added two tracks which i filmed/recorded before the rough cut, and really ended up doing nothing to but toss on top of the other, so whatever.  it's still dedicated to the little star who's had me edgewise for a month now, but still i dedicate:

Still not to my neurotic standards.  To say the least my aspirations for my dedications, in particular the one to her.  But I can't wait any longer, I need to get at least a rough cut, or rather, a "ruff cut" out there.  It's a fairly large file, 680 megs, at 1.5mps, once its done compressing--you should just start dl-ing now, go have a few kids, and somewhere in their sophomore year of college, you should come back and see if it's at least 1% done.  It doesn't look like fucked up neopolitan any more, but i definitely think i should recenter the third take between songs, at the very least.  I could try to play it off like "the drama is intensified as it leaves the mise en sense, you tease the viewer, you..."  ...make up excuses for not wanting to give up your computer for a good portion of a week (i think i may find other ways to do the muscle work that goes on behind-the-mise-en-sense before that).  Until then, as I akwardly dedicate at the end, i do again here, here's my fraction for the thurougly exquisite:

awbvious -- 2pac covers ruff cut.wmv (Thursday, March 23, 2006 12:11 PM - okay, maybe i'll link to it /after/ I finally manage a successful upload--hmm, one more shot, i'm seeing if it just needs a different file name, i get booted a third time, i'll upload this. Thursday, March 23, 2006 3:18 PM - oh good, it went thru, sorry people to tease you so, should work now--and for now, but 4alwayz for gwsmu, "a very beautiful woman" thuroughly so.)

The video for 3 takes is right now synched to the harmonica, it needs to be synched to the vocals, and of course, all three video need to be synched simultaneously...  Uggh.  But synching makes a difference.  For example, 2takez is far better than 2takes because 2takes is just off the audio from teh video, and the video ain't synched, but 2takez is off the mixer.  So it sounds better, and since the image is lost as soon as i'm a part of it, well, i gotta first upload that.  for the same thuroughly exquisite, i need to accomplish at least a fraction of that.

awbvious -- 2pac covers 2takez.wmv [EDIT: Sunday, March 19, 2006 10:59 PM, yeah, this is not good enough either.] [EDIT Monday, March 20, 2006 0:49 AM: as explained in thegreenroom.  oh, and the next edit/brackets, was the same day/night/nomatter, i just didn't bother to time stamp it.] [rassin'frassin'snazzlepoppin'...  well, i fucked up and didn't add the audio right, but i at least learned you can just tack the audio back on without redoing the video too, and save yourself/myself/theworld another hour--you never know with these taciturn wizards.  but you/me/everyone gotta wait at least 90 now, and then you gotta wait for a full, complete upload to the littleserverthatcould...  so, as always, check me tomorrow, as mercutio once said..]

Friday, March 17, 2006 6:07 AM

I haven't seen it yet and i'm (3 hours later: now it's kinda synched, enough for) uploading it, no surprise there.  But i added a harmonica take.  And I went straight G.  And all kinds of shit went wrong, and it took forever, but...  Anyway, this take, as was the others, as was everything else i've created of months late, was and is dedicated to my thuroughly-exquisite, little star, hope you're taking care wherever you are.

Dear world, i'm sorry i'm not as pretty as 2pac, but i gave it a shot.  Anyway, let me quote the March 4th thegreenroom entry: "Blame not my lute!  but anyway, this goes out for 'the girl who stood me up, the once intermediate, the now alpha-omega, the thuroughly exquisite, should always be taking care,' i think that's how it goes, i haven't actually heard (or watched) it all the way through.  Haven't had a chance yet.  I'm afraid once i do i'll not want to upload it."  Well, it's finally rendered, and i've finally watched it all the way through, and, hell if it didn't take all fucking day to render I probably wouldn't upload it.  But to continue the quote: "But even if the quality doesn't, hopefully the sentiment will flatter, hell, i don't even know if she likes 2pac..."  But I don't care if it'll make me a target of derision, i've been it before, a minor concession should this sentiment achieve and flatter even a little.

[EDIT Friday, March 17, 2006 11:27 PM, this take is out of synch, "...2takes.wmv" so rather than confuse and diffuse two, i'm just going to change this to link to the right one, 2takez, as two entries up aforementioned.]

[EDIT Sunday, March 19, 2006 11:01 PM, this "take"--i mean edit--is shit.  wait, scroll past this folderol of all black text to your blue salvation--should those be your default text and link colors, hold on cortez the peak of darian is near.]

The f'n' audio ain't synched right, so y'all gots to wait on the cover vid.  But in the meantime, while i let it render (needlessly, apparently) i decided to write and do a send-up to "To Live and Die in L.A." in my own idiom.  I call it "To Live and Dive in S.D."  You don't like it, oh well.  still dedicating to gwsmu, so here it is.  First the cover, then just the instrumental, then the lyrics to my send up, then the send up, did everything in one take, or rather 13 consecutive takes, in one hour.  [EDIT Monday, March 6, 2006 9:25 AM: took out two, distracting coughs from the "instrumental" if you can call it that, the only instrument is my trusty sloshy friend and my voice.  And i'm adding just the "vocal takes," and just the two SD takes mixed (hence "a capela," though how capela really is my "instrumental"), for giggles and shits in whatever order pleases you.]

I think I've finally a capping chapter for Perversity2--yes, that old thing.  This goes out to all beautiful women, but the aforementioned (chronologically-speaking, i.e. who I dedicated the last song(s) to, and all the hours of uneditted recording of late) helped precipitate it, so I have to thank her again.  But that's it, it's not like i'm forced to only get it to her through here.  For all the other beautiful women, who i'm sure you are all still beautiful to this day, well, hey, i'm sorry it's taken this many years, since i miss all of you.

This is most definitely to a very beautiful woman.  I don't know what took longer. Painstakingly transcribing the lyrics.  Recording all 17 takes (using 16).  Mixing 16 takes together.  All for a silly 2 minutes and 40 second song.  But these are the songs that tell of it.

Oh, but it's not silly.  It's what i'm talking about.  Maybe she doesn't email me.  It's all right.  Maybe she doesn't text me.  Still all right.  If my baby leaves me.  Still all right.  If i need to leave my baby.  Still all right.  Sometimes I moan I mo' mo' moan and I'm cryin', and I'm bloggin', all night, still it's all right.  I can feel it.  In my bones.  When I'm stoned.  When I'm sober.  Leaves me hungover.  But won't run for cover. 'Cause it's all right.

So fill my cup, till my head goes round and round... ah, but nothing can be sadder than a glass--of you? never.  Even alone.  It's all right.   Maybe I'm deluded.  Still all right.  Still won't dillute it.  Still all right.  Make me think of Clovers.  Still all right.  Get all keen all over.  Still all right.  Sometimes I'm writin', I'm writin', lyrics in places they don't belong...  Still it's all right.

first time i've recorded since i got laid off friday.  But also, first time i've gotten to close the window closest to my neighbor.  My cat's still not feelin' it yet.  But he will.  So, what did i try different on this take?  I tried to sing and spit.  But is it spit or would that be a bite?  Regardless: first time i've recorded since i got laid off friday.

Okay fixed the volume levels, and remixed the "vocals" over both, making take 10th slightly stronger, basically its the same thing only not at whisper level, i'm just replacing the earlier one, trust me you're not missing anything.  Anyway, now to chop it up.  Same link.

Saturday, December 31, 2005 2:02 AM

I think this is it.  The last mix.  time to chop it up.  Well, first time to sleep.  but here y'all go in the meantime.  Of course the best so far, but i'm thinking the best you'll get for quite a while so:

Alright.  So i took the 4 instrumentals, and i added take 9 and take 4.  Behold, "NEWmix."  I'm going to sleep, we out.  i'll have links to takes 5-9 eventually, maybe.  in the mean ime, i dunno why... but here's a link to just the 4 instrumental tracks (really, not worth the bandwidth).  And of course the best so far...  NEWmix.

Just download NEWmix, probably the best so far, i'll chop it later.

still working on it... but this is probably the most takes i can toss together.  4 "vocal," 4 "instrumental"--though 2 instrumental tracks are really vocal.  i suppose i can make links to those as well, i did a 9th take, and between 7 and 8 there's a fragmented take i really don't feel like putting back together, it's all about straight-thru takes.  But i dunno, maybe i'll use it for the next mix, i'm just going to take the 4 instrumentals and the newest take and maybe the fragmented.  if it doesn't come out, i'll just use this, chop it up, and, maybe, be done with it, for now, maybe..

So, I got out of having to do christmas with the folks.  Why waste a recordable day?  So, three takes, instrumental, i'll have links to those too, i suppose, but i figured i couldn't leave the place until i had /something/ to upload.  Now, if you read the comment on this mp3: "dedi: n.p. tookie gwsmu pac []."  That means this goes out to the three most beautiful ladies who walk and breathe but a few feet away from me on most days, and to two fallen heroes, who walked and breathed a completely different and far too short lives.

damn, i'm fucking tired.  if i hadn't done some unrelated video editting also tonight, i'd have gotten this done earlier.  As it is, fuck, i'm tired.  I did the recording, and i was going to synch it song by song, but i felt like, fuck it, it was practically sample-to-sample at the end of both takes once i matched two peaks of original recording to synch.  Aaah, fuck, this isn't a mix.  It's two seperate channels...  Oh well, i'm not going to stop the saving now.  I did a second take.  Still for n.p. and tookie.  And then i "synched" (sloppily--more like unreliably--but maybe it'll magically fit perfect anyway).  Fuck, i'm tired.  So, the first take, and then the "mix."  and i'm going to sleep.

first of all, much apologies to mc breed and bone thugs n harmony, since neither of their songs were on any 2pac/makaveli album, the online interpetations of the lyrics were subpar.  I fixed up the 2pac parts as best as i could--I mean, I wasn't even planning on recording this yet, I only had so much time, I can at least apologies personally for mumblin' like a sucka to the living aforementioned.

anyway, as i started and ended this one straight-thru take, all vocal, warts and all, I am doing this as a dedication to two people.  One, Stanley Tookie Williams, because there's no such thing as a perfect hero for blacks or whites, but it seems like enough black heroes have died as it is.  I don't mean to make him a martyr, but it's still a damn fucking shame, and proof once again you can never trust a republican.  They may seem moderate at first, but that's only because the money shadows behind them tell them to say whatever it takes, but once in power, remember who brought you there.

Two, for the Nubian Princess.  A woman for whom i changed my song order, so as to start with keep ya head up.  Someone who's beautiful, but engaged to her babies' daddy, well, she says engaged.  I said to her, I knew about the two kids, not the engaged part, and if ever things should change, to look my way, because she's absolutely beautiful, and if he has any sense things won't change (except towards the altar).  Now I don't know how recently they got "engaged," those kids are gettin' kinda grown, but i didn't say any of that...  I am not one to pressure, like marvin.  I took her reason for a passing at a chance to blaze (and yes, i am a fool, i would have just come, or had her come, to talk) at face value and that was it.

Today, I saw her for the first time since we had this exchange via email a week or two ago.  I was caught off guard so i didn't have the where-with-all to start a wave with a genial smile.  Before I could recover, she had looked down.  Like her thoughts were that since she wasn't going to get with me, I didn't think she was still "absolutely beautiful."  (I said it after she declined, but rather than making it seem unfettered by ulterior motives, it might have seemed more like a last-ditch effort.)  I wanted to somehow say right then, to somehow stop her and say, "it's cool, it's your thing, do what you want to do...  But that doesn't make you any less absolutely beautiful."  And i can respect trying to make it work so your children can have a father--my mother did no less, but i don't think my mother should have to be stuck with my father, she should even now have a chance at happiness.

I dunno, I got a lot of respect for that woman, before I knew her name I called her the nubian princess, for there was like a royal air about her, that never seemed put on, never pretentious, just like a specialness.  It took her a long time to even warm up to me, because i'm so naturally shy, then i finally, finally summoned to ask for her name, like the Intruders song, but after a year of fleeting glimpses, not after first meeting at a dance, used that to get the email, etc. etc.  I dunno now, i suppose over time she'll rewarm, as i fade back into the shadows from which i withdrew so shortly, and she knows me as nothing more than that strange apparition that sings along to the old school in my car.  i hope so soon, cause when she looks at me next, i don't want her to look down, i want her to feel beautiful, and strong, and to keep her head up.

I'll rerecord all this some other time, i'm sure.  Here's one track / one take (haven't heard it, hope it's not horrible), tonight, for tookie and my nubian princess.

My simple plan for number three, the war of attritition, hey, not my fault, well, i mean, it is, but this is the first time there was a freakin' curfew, can't be late or get locked out, oh well, i was there in spirit, i drew a sketch while freezing my motherfucking hands.  But why was i late by not even 10 minutes?  Because i needed to record a harmonica track, because everytime i fucking make an album i'm immediately self-conscious, its totally not good enough, for whomever encourages it, amuses it, perhaps you could say, anyway, a different muse from number three, we're talking the proverbial, i gotta have a better copy for her, that theoretical creature, whenever i may find her...  Sure... Oh well, solomon can say what i can't and i'll repeat it as best i can.

Oh, so uh "remix" just means instead of just two vocal tracks, its two vocal tracks and a harmonica track (all c, one take).  What was i thinking that i could get all the way home, record that track during the only available hour free of work and noise concerns, and make it keep up the simple plan for number three...  How long had it been months?  maybe 10?  i've been far later before, but new rules, so, feels weird, not getting some in at least...  And of course an hour earlier my mind was consumed with well, the kind that stands one up, what do i have now?  Not even a few hours of sleep and then work, but you get these:

Hmm...  Never did get around to burning her that copy...  Oh well, now it can be christmas present, maybe i'll even do some more takes.  Anyway, here's the newest waste of my life.  I've dedicated this one to "the girl who stood me up."  Maybe this is the general girl who stood me up, maybe it's not so general.  suffice it to say, it's no one i've dedicated to before.  These are ready for burning  to CD, well...  Ready as far as file format.  I don't know how ready two straight-thru tracks (record all 20, then play it back and record the second track to harmony), with just two vocal tracks... i'm of course not even going to listen to it, but just put it out there.  and maybe get a copy to the girl who--if there's a girl, mind you... i fucking wish i was being facetious/symbolic...--stood me up a couple days ago--in a theoretical, proverbial way...  Fuck...  Sometimes, yeah, sometimes, sometimes, sometimes i feel a little better...

3000.  Finally.  only took me nearly a year to crawl inch by inch up from 2000.

Sunday, August 7, 2005 1:17 AM

So, I found out it was someone's birthday today, and i've already got it ready...

Oh, no, i'm not talking about my sister's birthday, no, for that i just sent her an email (last email i sent her was over a year ago).  I wrote "no one's more happier than i [with your current success], especially since again i don't have a gift for a family-member's birthday."  My mom called me the day before "you know its your sister's birthday..."  (the sister that calls me up to remind me of my parent's birthday's other days of family obligation)  "...tomorrow, you should call her or something."  "yeah, i'll send her an email.  So has she got any plans?"  "She's going to spend time with [my other sister] in Temecula."

The idea of my sisters having plans that included each other exclusively was nothing new to me.  After all, it was my sister's 32nd birthday, and my other sister is 35...  I'm still a wee-26.  All my life they've considered me too young, and i got used to it.  They would live together and i would come out and see them for a birthday, graduation, or to help them move.  But when I started to become of a certain age, it was a bit different, because even though my sisters didn't consider me anything more than their baby brother, i looked at some of their friends as attractive females, if ever i'd mention it though to one of them, they'd laugh, and then get serious and say i couldn't hit on their friends, because they would never go for me, etc., etc.

My sisters are very much different from me, and its excentuated in how much they're alike each other.  As I got even older still, I eventually stopped caring for my sister's friends, or their activities, it was clear they were simply into different things.  So...  My mom says "...Temecula."  I say, "Temecula??"  She says its by San Bernadino, I of course already know this as my favorite oldies station, staticky as it always was by the time it got us, was from that area.  My first female friend in 8th grade introduced me to it, until then i knew only the fairly-more-square, but still a friend of youth and life, LA oldies station, and it made a more lasting impact than most events of my childhood.  So I said "No, I know where Temecula is...  But what the... But what's in Temecula?"  "Oh, they're going to a wine-tasting thi..."  "Aaaaaaah," I say knowing, "that makes more sense."

Anyway, I plan to give this birthday gift a few days early of her actual day, while most of my friends and family usually have to wait a year or two after till i make good on promises of birthday gifts (unless you count that email saying "it was your birthday and all you got was this lousy email").  Anyway, i'll be giving her 5 CDs, if i go through with this plan--gifts are allowed between friends (right?), and music has (yet...) been denied, but i've got to be sure its still in the spirit, for i know better than to just try to succeed pushing the letter, of the not-law-but-something-for-which-i-have-much-more-respect.

Of these 5 CDs.  The first three are the same thing, but with different volume schemas.  Further, the first two are cut up, while the last one is just a long (the original) take.  The last two CDs are the same songs as the first two, except without the 5 middle songs, leaving it almost entirely intrumental, and perhaps of some use to her.  Regardless, all i want to say, before i fall asleep, is that she deserved my entire saturday, and happy birthday, and let me know if i ever i go against that spirit of that not-law-but-respect, for you deserve everything you've ever asked and ever wanted.

I felt inspired, and i'm too tired, from having exhausted the impetus, to know whether i was or not.  instrumentals aren't easy to distinguish always...  but the spirit of inspiration is firstly one of doing, doing so often, it becomes well, those who are inspired often, then the result is inspired, regardless, but degrees of inspiration are to everything, and one surely would want to be the most and do the most.  Still...  zzzzz zz zz zzzzz  zzzz zz  STILL, uh...  whatever, i'm going to sleep.

yawn, smack smack...  i'm high, i'm tired, she's beautiful, what of it?  I'm happy, I'm sad, I'm neither and both.  But mostly just glad to have the presence, to feel the inspiration, which kept my fingers moving, though i'm sure i fell asleep long, long, long ago.

Fucking a...  i don't even want to mention it, but i added to perversity 2.  there i mentioned it.  but fuck linking to it.   I almost wish i hadn't even done it, but sigh, now is a little late to start stopping myself just because i hate my own product.  Hmm, product isn't the right word.  "Everything."  That's the right word.

A week later and none the more intelligent.  All teh later stuff, except tonight i recorded knowing it will probably do me no better than it did me a week before, so, maybe that added a bit to "the feeling"--but the burning to "do it" is just as strong,.  i just shouldn't "do it" like this, where I now have to sleep...  but not enough at that. I just did vocal over the whole shebanglo and normed it, chopped it up more lazy than usual, but here you go!  It's free, don't complain...  Don't, like, give me praise and money either, or god forbid, feminine wiles.  (Sarscasm, but still, the Wind, i just recorded an ode to you, you think i forget you that quickly?)

It seems terribly unfair though mildly exciting that someone else besides me and the one its dedicated to...  That infamous Wind, should materialize, or even say it would be okay, not that i know how to broach the subject, i'd perhaps be a little more specific.  But as it is it doesn't matter.  But she's...  Well, the only one showing me her mind lately.  And i like it, and she says she loves Neil Diamond, and we're back down that road.  So, it's unfair you should get this before the wind, i only heard part of one...  sounds pretty good, another voc track and a c to go with the g...  not bad i think, i'm scared to do a guitar track cause i don't trust most online interps and i don't know if i have the confidence to interpret via guitar, but harmonica i do often and by necessity.  Anyway the first is a high-bit rate fixed mp3, and the rest are cd-ready wav.

This is dedicated to the wind, and nothing can be bad that encourages one to:

Have you ever started something and not known why?  Or maybe just forgotten?  Either way that makes one an artist.  i dunno about this project, i've been working on it for like, a few months now... and i don't even know why...  i'm so sick of it, i'm just going to "turn it in" and move on.  i'm not even going to put any thought into naming them.  i'm done, i'm sick of it.  But the one thing that makes the artist different from the insane-asylum worthy, is the fact that he/she puts it out there for the world to see.  That...  and not killing or wanting to kill people.  i mean, like, really want to harm others, but just physically incapable, i dunno, would that make you an artist if you then passed on your lurid imagination, rumination of maiming and whatnot, rather than just destroy it?  i need to move on to another project.  All something and no something makes something go something something.  it's only through 3 levels removed will i make such a reference (levels 2 and 3 are worthy).

Neil Diamond covers.  Dedicated to the wind.  Two takes, both last night, vocal on the left, harmonica on the right.  I synched and burned this morning (I also put the songs onto a CD).  "i haven't even heard it yet."  "well that's brave."  perhaps.  i think of it more as a mix of hasty and lazy.  The word that comes to mind?

I'm so fucking tired...  Anyway, figuratively as well.  I thought I'd do some original, and since i'm lazy, impromptu stuff.  I haven't even listened to it, i just recorded it an hour ago.  Probably nothing you'll be interested in, this was me just getting a few things off my frets.

Okay, same songs as below.  Except "below" it is the album "Dedicated to Belicia L."  That's the full title.   But the full album title of this final effort is "B I S -- Dedicated to Belicia L. and two other beautiful women I. and S."  For I really went through all this effort because as soon I had given the first edition to the these three lovely muses, i immediately felt I had to do a better job, for all three of them.  Hence, the slight retitling.  Not even retitling more like subtitling, mere prefixing and suffixing.  Not that they all deserve it so much more than any one else, but that no one particular deserves it more than the next, for they have all been simply distant muses.  Oh well, I still dedicate this to them.  Thanks as always to top40db.net for hosting the lyrics, not just these lyrics, but the lyrics for all the top 40 billboard songs, without ads, for the betterment of music everywhere.

Okay, so I'm never happy.  I had to do some more changes.  Same songs as below, except with 3 new takes and some fancy(fancier) stereo mixing.  I'll add the mp3 versions and the vocal and inst versions in time.  Sorry, these .wav are uncompressed, 24-bit (which won't burn, use the links below--but not the other "below"--the ones directly following these "HIQ" with the "cdready" links--these are 16-bit and burn and play on normal stereo equipment).  Big files, slow DL, nothing new.

What's new?  how about the latest greatest album.  Dedicated to Belicia L.  (but with honorable mention to the two other beautiful women who also received one of the 3 first editions--they know who they are.)  Made exclusively from takes recorded between 3/28/2005 and 4/3/2005.

[EDIT Monday, April 18, 2005 7:18 AM -- Adding (lyrics).   Alright...  Now these songs were not chosen at random.  I think I could be coy and say that these were all transcribed by the mythical beast known as "rogersjr."  But the reality is that the mythical beast is me: Awbvious.  Rogersjr is just another of my noms de internet, borne of awbvious paranoia, and this nom was exclusively for http://www.top40db.net.

Top40db is likewise free of ads and works entirely by donation.  Well, at least "Todd" is asking for donations, just as I did/do.  I hope he has received more than $5 to date.  Anyway, I'm putting links to my transcriptions, so you can sing along...  I mean, with the originals.   The idea of someone singing along to an awbvious song like i do to every song, every day...  That blows my mind.  Granted, it has help.

Oh, and these are all 25 rogersjr transcriptions to date--you can find them also by doing a "custom search," "last edit by."  And finally, the fourth honorable mention goes not to one of the three beautiful women for whom i labored over this specifically, but instead to the spirit which propelled and ignited--in reverse order--whatever...  the original Ace tabber of the 50s, 60s, and 70s: Andrew Rogers.

Much thanks to everyone at www.top40db.net--it's been fun being unknown, it's so hard when you're as high profile as awbvious.]

so i did a second take, i wanted video--hence that beep at the end, if you listen to the end, which you shouldn't.  actually don't even listen to this. i'm just compelled as an artist to make and show, unfinished or not, and if its all the same to you, i'd rather you just walked by and not disturb.  but... yeah...  (mind you, i've never even seen this show.)

So yesterday, j.b.'s watching pimp my ride, and he says the same damn thing my coworker said, that i should get mine pimped, lord knows it's decrepit enough.  So.  I figured I'd fuck aronud and see if I couldn't come up with something.  This is minorly censored.  Maybe not even censored enough.  First part is to the tune of (though you won't hear it) Funkin' for Jamaica and the second is, well...  Man, why the fuck am I even...

Nope.  no such thing as a panacea.  fuck the bottom link, its out of sync.  That's it, i'm striking it dead.  I'll resurrect it with a better link.  So shall it start forthwith.  Time stretching, using beginning and end markers, not enough.  well, maybe if i did them together.  but even then, the delays and time changes are not so linear, sometimes its a plip, glitch, something that makes the processor burp.  A byte too big to swallow.  Fuck, looks like i'll be on time for work.  eh, its alright, i look forward to friday just like fats.

So...  I've nearly got my mixer fixed...  I just can't record more than one channel...  But that's enough to make me put down my editting and record two "new" songs--both covers.  But I did manage to finish one edit.  Midnight Special is an edit of the long take i did back in october.  Trouble man i did earlier today, and actually put some effort into, g thang i just busted out 10 min. ago on a whim.  But that's me.  I live off whim.

singin on and on and on and yawn, i gotta stop tryin' till the break of dawn.  Still...  god, weeks now since i've uploaded anything.  So.  Here.  A new best-yet-as-usual Stirrer's.  I'm pretty happy with it.  Almost done with it.  the cover is going to look tight.  oh, and so, i also took some pictures tonight, and i had some other older pics on there, and i'm not feelin the tons of links, so i'm just going to rar and link that, it's just pictures of my room and my bathroom, and some pictures of me, about a month or so old, wasn't the intention to take any pictures of myself, so i'm not all glammed up as usual.  But tonight, i just took pictures of my room, and the insane mess.  And i think if i tackle the room, i'll tackle anything...  problem is i got this fucked-up aesthetic...  anyway, enjoy the pics as well.  and this NEWEST BESTEST take, of Stirrers:

Finally, i've been sitting on this for a while, but every time i tried to save it at 160 kbps, my damn app froze my comp.  i'd run scan disk after restarting, no good.  I'd still crap out.  Then after complete boot, i ran cmd, then cd to the drive in disktress, and ran chkdsk /f on the drive, optioning to dismount it when asked, for it could not repair chains in read only.  what a stupid mess.  and that was a really easy problem to fix.  So.  I finally got it saved.  I took mix 3 and recorded the harmony off the back-ups like i was planning, thus getting a 4 mix that sounds... heavenly.  its finally done.  i think i might actually chop it up into individual songs next.  but first.  FUCKING SLEEP.  snrrkkrrxxxkxx.

But SERIOUSLY.  FINALLY.  AFTER ALL THIS TIME.  MONTHS AND MONTHS.  FINALLLY.  I have a version I am happy with.  I've been tempted to add a harmonica track, but i don't think i will, its not an organ, and besides, its really just where i want it.  It's great.  So, next, i'll chop it up and get you some bitesize.  Until then.  THE FINAL COUP DE AMAZING GRACE.

I Call it "Secular Gospel."  For it is about God, but its really about music, and a love of it, and a love for uplighting and inspirational music.  It's church music for the atheist.  Or non-atheist.  Its for everyone.  And the songs are absolutely beautiful.  I only hope I succeeded as well as I think I finally have.  Enjoy.

Fucking no one even came over.  fucking a.  Then i went to the party, and loser that I am, didn't mention to friends, for they would have chided me, luckily, they care not about me and my interests, and i miss my greenroom.  but its better this way, for i should sleep.  And i wasn't even drunk, and i ended up throwing up between dancing/sweating all night and having eaten nothing all day, and consuming only spliffs and a copious number of redbulls, and since i lost my water bottle (not a good thing for a smoker), well, i ended up puking red bull, a lovely experience, let me tell you.  But I wiped my mouth on the sleave of my jesus costume and went right back to the dance floor.  And were i different person I would have done something about it, and i'd probably be happier in general, but I'm me, and thus, i only lusted, but there was a good handful, that is to say you could count on one hand, that I would definitely have fucked.  But that never happens.  So who knows, with my ivory tower hypotheticals and theoreticals.  Anyway, why should jesus get laid, he just died for your motherfucking sins is all, and like, was designated driver, and like...  fuck it.  Ah well, doing good doesn't always mean it does you good, that was in a L&O episode I saw after I got home.  And now, now I want to write to a number of women.  Only women.  I want them to swoon, over my words.  Yes, I did in fact audibly laugh at these same supposedly swoonable words, whilst awrittening.  Man, I need some lovin', bad...  Must jesus bear, this cross, alone?  I sang to myself occassionally, i usually do.  I also stand alone a lot.  My mother remarked to me recently at a thing i went to about a week ago, a gentlemen we both saw at this thing, she said he looked so "sad" standing there alone.  I admonished my own mother, for i felt a tinge, more than a tinge, of simpathy for that individual, i said, "mom, that would be me normally.  Except when I have this."  Then I raised my sketchbook, and I need not add, so i didn't: "and when I have that, i'm usually sitting in a corner, and drawing, and looking no less 'sad.'"  What I did say, after leaning in and lowering my voice, was "you really should be quieter."  What if he overheard?  Why does he need another hit by the unfeeling society, ironic as my mother is so much of a feeling individual, and this was sympathy (but not, though this isn't that kind of thing, "let's go talk to him," which is what I think would have been really fucking cool at this thing, but whatever, people aren't going to change, unless you are famous, in which case, you won't even meet normal people anymore, anyway).  I feel like I'm always going to people.  I stand alone, no one comes to me, fucking a, certainly not women, so i don't go to people any more, and then I'm perfectly fine, until i get bored and sick of the fact I can't at least be creating something, so that way my wretched existence of goddamn, lonely-yet-not-seeking existence.  Where i just want a woman to be ...  No, this is disgusting.  Maybe this happens even when I don't drink, and i'm just around drunk girls.  Kindof like a contact high.  Or maybe I just haven't taken care of myself, that could be.  And maybe if I didn't I wouldn't need, but at least now I don't need-need, not enough to have to deal with fucking won't-come-to-yous, i'm so pissed off with it all, and now, now I know this is just ...  doesn't belong in the "new."  The only thing that this has to do with my newest piece is that its the same fucking pain.  Except, i got to be jesus.  Eh.  It was okay.  I mostly was cold without socks.  And its not like i got to GODDAMN, okay, and i would, but i gotta help a friend move.  But no, jesus musn't bear the cross alone, even if i don't believe so much, and this person I'm helping does, doesn't matter, what matters is message.  Spirituality aside, i'm talking philosophy and a celebration of that life direction.  And so what if it...  I think i'll call the album.  Secular Gospel.  It might actually be done now.  I'm kinda, maybe tempted to do a fourth take, on the third take which i had to do off the original, because i didn't know the backup well enough to just do it of the first two.  Because then I wouldn't have to do a, goddamn i'm tired, possible fourth take, to make the filling of the gap between my interpretations, because they aren't direct evolutions.  anyway, i wanted, i wanted...  i want...  i need... i wish i could... but i can't can i?  no i suppose.  Tomorrow i must help my friend move.  And soon, no more cig smokers, for the cigs, esp. unfiltered, were killing me, and now my coworker is no longer working with me, and she and i would go on cigarette breaks.  There are things of her I will miss, the cig temptation and the country music, the kenny g, and the lying...  especially the country music.  i will not.  she deosn't know this address, i'm pretty damn sure, but she's a sneaky one, i'm glad i won't have to worry about it coming to screw me, if i, say, be forthcoming like this, to the world as it were... have i hit 2000 yet?  damn...  Almost 8 more.  How many REAL people go to this site, i wonder...  Not long though, for it matters not.  I write for no one but myself, and it pleases me much.  But I still wish I had a ...  Goddamn it, words are evil, but never worthless, but evil, in that they, goddamn, remind me of my own desires, but i suppose i should have them, and i know i should be acting upon them, but you know us creative types, what with our depression and anxiety and neuroses and obsessions and compulsions and delusions and denials and diversions and desires that we grind with mortal and pestle and work into the paints we paint with, and then trash the canvas, unless its saved and sold and revered, only after we die, the odds are usually very good you'll just not be appreciated.  i'm so tired, i think i should sleep.  i'm fairly desirous, but not in any like, it could be any way but rote right now.  I need someone tender...  I need a feeling of warmth and softness.  i want, ...  to remind myself that it helps me not to think these, but think i do, and what is the greenroom but a place for thoughts?  I don't know, maybe a place for a story.  No, that should go in new.  everything is topsy turvy now, and like, this is totally wrong, this is not what the new was meant for, you've / i've spent so much time, you're going to have timestamp when you end which you're, again, tired, and thus, ready for, then whenever you are ready, we might as well, cause you're / i'm not getting laid regardless, i want her love...  Which her?  Any her.  I want love.  Damn.  I can't take any her though, but the hers who know I feel things for them.  Them, any of them, any one that I've mentioned I thought was attractive and ... let's just leave it at that, or hell, you don't know, i don't know, i don't know, i just don't know, i do know that i'm... tired.  and this is not the place, and like, where the fuck is that time stamp, i ned to sleep, so just like, you know, toss it in, covert, Sunday, October 31, 2004 4:32 AM, and go to sleep.  I don't think i'll do a 4th, I don't need to hear that many of the backups when i got double the foreground.  Yawn yawn smack smack, i'll listen to this tomorrow, hopefully i'll have some time.  damn, did i mention how tired or how hard up or how much i love my cat?  i love my cat...  he'll make it better.  i told my friend, i'm sleeping, nad i'll call you when i wake up, but i'm not alarming, he didn't seem to mind at all, naturally, since i don't know who else he's gonna get.  God, i am so fucking tired, Jeeeesus wash away my troubles...  I'm tired.  so tired, time to sleep and when i wake, go through like, this typical miserable way, hopefully accomplishing things now and then.Sunday October 31, 2004 4:38 AM

Mmm, much better than yesterday's link.  of course, i always think my most recent take is the best...  But this one really is.  whatever.  I took yesterday's, rerecorded a harmony track off it, as opposed to doing both off the album, thus getting harmonies i wouldn't otherwise.  Now that I am much more familiar with the words and the way the songs go, i can do that.  Listening to the original album like, nearly every other day, at least a few times a week, for the last couple months, helps.

Oh, and having your heart eviscerated out of your rib cage, that can help as well.  It was trounced and squinched and stamped out.  Fucking ...  Ug.  If I didn't care, it wouldn't hurt.  But I did care, nearly had a panic attack, had to go home, for a few hours.  First time ever for leaving early from work.  But when I got home, I recorded the harmony track, which was a pretty powerful recording I think (being early in the afternoon meant I could also be loud, also nice).  The result?  I suffer for my art, for my art thrives off my pain, it eats it away, like maggots can on infected tissue in a wound.  And i was able to go back to work, which was very good.

But she still hurt me in ways I don't want to remember.  I like brutal honesty, but only for the honesty, and she was going only for the brutality.  And i was destroyed.  For caring about a person, not in any base way, but in a hopeful way, yes...  And though I never acted, nor expected, nor even suggested, was only revealed by another, for this I am made to feel as if I am hurting her, for caring, and made to feel as though my genuine care, which is stronger than my desire to be with her, such that if i thought someone else could and would treat her better, i would gladly step aside, was wrong, and deserved admonition, and served with such insensitivity, of such a degree, it was so shocking, I accepted almost unknowingly her contention that I was a bastard, or whatever epithets she said, for the words melt away and i'm left only a feeling of pain for a memory, and for feeling a true sense of goodwill, dwarfing sexuality, for this she destroys me.  Completely.  But from the ashes...

I wonder if you will sense the pain, the hope for a brighter day and a lighter cross, and the need for love.

Whywouldit?  Another chapter in the meandering story, kindof about a girl, and a guy who thinks of the girl, but never leaves his room, and kinda talks to an imaginary person, but at the same time he's about solid as my forth wall, i guess its just slightly more interesting than Me1 and Me2.  Hmm...  Maybe I shouldn't record...  I never get any damn sleep.  NEVER.  I'm so fucking tired.  And so glad I stayed in and talked to myself.  But I can't record, I must sleep.  Oh, fiddlesticks.  And fucking mother-fucking shit goddamn sons of mother-fucking bitches.  yeah, who's your daddy and where's grandma too.  Yawn...  Goddamn whippersnappers at work.  youngsters with such piss and vinegar...  vinegar belongs in the old.  damn it.  and i can't be a curmudgeon even a smidgen, or estrogen ww3 breaks out.

I forgot that I knew how to rap, I need to write more lyrics.  Last night, fucking around, coming up with lines as I watched BET's Top 25 with Nelly (he had some good ones in there), in particular "How Do You Want It" was playing on the Tivo, at one point.  I forget that in emceeing, writing the lyrics can be done without knowing the beat ahead of time, even more so than with most songwriting, because you usually have to follow 16-beat, which is what the djs are expecting, unless you flow crazy, like i do.  I just flew crazy, still it can be mined later:  Just getting myself warmed up, I'm going to take more opportunities in the future for transcribed flowing, or start transcribing more of these flows that I just write into my sketch pad, when I'm not using it to doodle or construct abstract art, whichever it is.

Goddamnit, jake said I was long-winded, recently, and I am... fuck.

man, using end points is the way to go.  Also, normalizing sucks.  I am glad I keep unnormalized copies of all my songs.  when you don't know what the fuck you're doing in music its always good to be a packrat and keep every file that is irreplacable.  Of course, I got a 160 last christmas, after filling my two 120s, and now... I need more space...  packratting has it disadvantages.  But more space... more corners more nooks for my crannies.  makes me drool...

Anyway, totally off topic.  I don't know why, I just felt like recording this song...  The Bottle by Gil Scott-Heron.  I mean, I've loved the song for a long-ass time.  I decided to cover the original and the live version, consecutively.  Three takes.  take 1: whistle lyric.  2: lyric whistle.  3. doowop beatbox.  You heard me, all vocal.  i think it was be-yorick who said "instruments are dead."  or something like that.  (It was in Newsweek, a couple weeks ago.)

mmm.... space...  my c's been fuckin' up, still running, but there's like pausing and skipping when it plays media files...  i could move all must shit from there onto a new big tasty drive...  mmm, computers make it so you can be a packrat and not trip over all the shit you have lying about.  Me trip?  neva.

I'm... not even happy with this mix.  i never stop... yeesh.  anyway, i recorded a harmonica.  natch, i like it but think it needs to be done again and again, and a new mix, and a new mix...

okay, so since this is really going to be the last one... like i'm thinking of getting rid of the extra file types of 7.  Still, here, a gospel cd, free to burn.  it's not so much about gospel as it is about vocals and harmonies, but the messages do matter, just think of it a bit more secularly, please.  or don't.  just be aware the only holy spirit inhabiting me was perhaps the one i combusted and inhaled.  religion, greenery, it's all the same.  These are just good songs, and i did my best to do them (and Sam Cooke and the Soul Stirrers, of course) justice.

So, check it out, i got an .iso for you.  I can't make it any easier for you.  download and burn and rock out to the lord.  haha, no, i'm kidding, but i fucking like it, it's uplifting shit, considering how we all feel a bit downtrodden from now to then, its kinda okay that it's got god and jesus all through it.

besides, its not like its gag-till-asphyxiation white G-rock.  shudder shudder wince.  it's not white at all, so it's got some serious redemption to it, the original that is, it's up to you how i do on my interpretation.  anyway, burn it, listen, enjoy, i record whatever fits my fancy, not anything else, so well, i get this, and now you get it, and now i've got shit to do, so i'm outs.

in another life...  i thought maybe it would be a good idea to maybe entertain a notion that has taken so much of my time, it's bizarre.  but i'm perfectionist.  even a perfectionist.  of a certain sort, clearly.

I don't expect anyone to understand i rarely do myself.  though i do myself all the time.  so did marvin gaye.  so that's how i operate, i just rationalize all imperfectionsts by shared by other famous types, by twisting them into more than imperfections but reflections, correlations on deep meanings with geniuses.

oh, i'm humorous.  Anyway.in another dimension before the big bang, i thought maybe i should record sam cooke and the soul stirrers, having just discovered it myself, for its completeness and wealth.  i recorded take after take, and i tried throwing them together i tried them seperate, i tried new stuff then tried recombining, till it was certainly over-stirrered, like a milk-shake too long in the blender.

but with each take, i got to learn a little more, and then, after i had done 6 or 7 takes and tried all kinds of permutations, i said fuck it, and recorded a new take of sam cooke by himself, that's what started it in the first place.  That was yesterday or friday.  I was so satisfied, i was amazed.  But it was not too surprising ...  after i had learned it so much... only, i think its a little loud the back-up track i recorded tonight and mixed with it, since the track i mixed in yesterday was from way back when, when i wasn't doing just sam cooke but switching between the bass and sam, which wasn't so much a difficulty as it was a problem of no overlapping ends and beginnings like in the orginial.  so yesterday/day-before i only did sam, and then i mixed in back-ups, and realized, i need to the bass, in particular, and i could also but a deeper back-up i think it worked.

i was a little freaked, because it wasn't matching on both ends, see, i've been putting in original audio snippets at teh beggining and end (now end, especially with these long pieces) so i can synch them.  And synching in the beginning is usually enough, but with these long ones, with this back-up i found it didn't fit perfect, like the other.  i had to mix it slightly later to fit the end synch point, but rather than do a full overlay, which was my mistake earlier, when the song became frappee.  This time i synched it to the first point to that song about heaven and then after that i over-wrote starting with the next song synched to the end point.

and that's all it took, like magic I had suddenly the FINAL take, serious this time--I think--no, serious, it's a little loud in the back-up in that part that goes "run sinner run", because I'm trying a new thing where I'm not normalizing, but just upping volume, more realism, but unpredictable...  Anyway, it was all as simple as that and then I was happy, must be a miracle.

never get enough sleep.  anyway, i took the one take and mixed it with my first back-up take, because i think the second one has a little of sam cooke's part in it, and i want just one take...  so its a lot less mixing then i've done for some of the other versions, and it doesn't have some of the deeper-voice parts, maybe that was the second back-up.  But regardless, this is a good mix, i like it, 7 is just too much, this is just right.

The time attack begins.  Time attack reviews.  The inaugural, of course, is going to be much longer than it needs to be.  Oh, and by the way, this is my unexpected reciprocal for the donation, though "polo" didn't mention anything he liked, he did say something the same day in a different place about wanting some descriptions of time attack videos--which i've been watching steadily for the last few months.  Of course, I don't accomodate him there, nor in the specific way he describes, but in whatever way the artist thinks its appropriate to reciprocate the donation.

so i'm going to be writing a review of time attack videos, but i thought i'd first do a little something to set the mood, the idea is you could listen to this while you are reading about timeattack, as its three timeattack videos of super marios bros. the first by mfried, the second by ryosuke (and the interpretation/orig-perf of which is my favorite), the third by mfried.  all vocal beatboxdoowop, the style, as i call it.  damn i have so much to do.  but here's this for now.  i get a kick out of it--and its only 16 megs/mins, so, chill.

So...  A month ago, I said...  "Someday...  When I actually have some time...  I should really record the entire album 'Sam Cooke with the Soul Stirrers'--but not right now."  Or something like that, i think i even went off on my new mindset thing.  But anyway, i'm happily employed.  and now, well, i suppose i still want to do ANOTHER take, but this is ridiculous, i'm even using capitals.  too ridiculous.  do you have any idea how many gigs i've spent on full quality mixes?  Well, it's ridiculous.  i'm getting rid of these mixes.  I have all the original takes, i'm just SUCH a pack rat, and i can even fill up nothing to the brim.  you know what?  i'm crazy, and it won't crash the server as they won't even get downloaded, but what if there's someone crazier than me?  and i'm pretty crazy, after all, about the preservation of art, i still weep over the library of alexander.  so, i'm just going to put the links for... oh, a few hours... okay, 24, after the above time mark, so if you want these old mixes, better crash our server... haha, oh... shit... maybe i shouldn't do this...  Oh, and my point...  When did "new" become a blog?  it's not.  My non-point: i'm over this song, as i finally have the perfect mix.  i took all these other takes, and for the fuck of it, mixed them all again, and i don't know if this is the best mix...  definitely the best so far.  i didn't just say perfect did i?  anyway, fuck the other links, just go to the first one.  okay, now, i'm saving a 320 version?  i don't know...  ever get that feeling, that's not too terribly disconcerting that you're slipping away...  anyway.  i don't know... how long i'll have these songs...  available...  but whatever.  oh... nobody cares...  oh... i got another 17 to worry about, so what... its only something like 30 gigs?  ugg...  which ones should be discarded?  what if i discard some perfect mix, that i'll never replicate...  However, it is theoretically possible, and further more, odds are even better i can do a better mix, as i clearly think this most recent one is such a better mix...  oh fuck it, you wouldn't have downloaded it anyways.  but since its the best version, i'll give it to you in all three versions.  High variable bit rate.  Fixed bitrate 160, already better than you need.  But for the audiophile or just the crazy, there's the 320, as that's what i'd probably want, though i don't even know if the sound is any different, the 320 is still in the process of saving.  such big ass files.  and i'm deleting the old mixes, except the ones for the mp3s i put online.  fuck it.  i'm losing my mind on this album.  but its good though, i'm listening to it right now.  my goal, however, was to somehow record something so good i'd rather hear it than the original album.  i've not succeeded in that, but i'm liking this very much, i'll listen to it again in the future, that's a good sign...  THIS is ridiculous AND not a blog...  whatever.  fuck, let's check my email, and take the nite-nite pill.  how precious are these terms tonight, i take my "nite-nite" pill, and i could easily have ironically ... ooh, ... well, redbull, it's killed... anyway, yay, it's done saving.  i'm sorry world, i'm deleting the older mixes, but i got originals, its okay... it's okay... anyway, i've got the mix to satisfy me.  hmmph, i know what would satisfy me much.  naw.  fuck it.  i couldn't do it large files quality length, etc. all that bullshit.  anyway, where's my zol?  tomorrow the bupe.  loftropion sr...  sounds like a good anime movie..  okay, anyway, yay me, i've accomplished, but nay me, for blogging you down like this, i just love being a punkassiconoclast with my 52 minute songs.  yeah, that's right, each one.  its 52 minutes long. 122 megs -- that's the 320kbps--then it's simple math.  but for the slow, unintentional pun, actually the slow get fucked...  61 meg for the 160kbps, then the VBR is 69 meg.  actually, these are not rounded properly.  haha, and then.  the monster.  the 24-bit quality .wav (which needs to be converted down to 16-bit to be put onto CD) haha...  of course.  and the 16-bit quality .wav.  yes, i feel very crazy.  but i'm getting rid as much as i'm adding, i will... even as much as i don't want to... like i don't want to check my email... but i must.  i just realized it would fit just perfect on a CD, which makes sense, what with the quality being the same as the cd... whatever.  i'm not surprised.  but whatever, make yourself a CD with the 16-bit version...  i'll give the size of that in a minute, cause its saving now.  But the 24 bitter?  812 megs.  now.  you see.  i have 31 mixes.  and they make a total of 24 gigs.  i must delete... oh, saved.  541 megs.  monstrous.  but you have to dl that one if you want to make a cd, and get the quality,  oooh, i need to burn that myself...  maybe my time wasn't wasted...  on it, that is, not on this fucking blogmonster.  and i know i know i know this isn't a blog.  and i know i know i know that a change is gonna come...  i'm clearly listening to the very end of the album / song so i'm going to time stamp this shit.  though i think i started the song/album before i started this mother of a...  ah, here comes the end...  i'm sorry i didn't know all the words...  anyway, want to say...  that's it.  later foolz.August 25, 2004 10:32 PM

Twas a good saturday, but tomorrow must be spent doing responsible things.  So here is the result of another night's work on this song/album, and again, i must sleep.  but thank god for sleeping in.  [EDIT: Sunday, August 22, 2004 6:14 PM , fucking a, i accidentally, fucking loser, well, its not like it can be replicated or anything, after all the mixing, but still, anyway, i just took the left channel from my most recent take, normed and unnormed, and mixed it into the two channels of 5c, and that's pretty good, now you don't hear the orig., how shitty, but that's music editting.  its just shitty when the files are so large that saving them requires me to waste time by typing shit like this and whatnot.  and when i got other shit i want to do.  but still, fixed link...  as soon as it finishes saving... well, by the time i get connected and ready to upload...  so, anyway, same thing just with a mono mix in there's also another take before that, but 5c is huge and not worth uploading, but that's still mixed in barely, so it's really 5 takes mixed, heavily mixed, one in particular, i mixed in at different intervals, only because the 4th take ended up ...  yay, it's done.]

So, yesterday, I write, "possibly my only hour" of gospel...  Right...  Anyway, i wasn't totally satisfied one-take.  I knew it needed something, besides some actual editting, cause i don't have that kind of time.  But i nontheless spent an hour recording back-up for that album cover.  Anyway, I think this is a superior version, though i haven't even gotten to hear it all yet.  Still, fuck yesterday, I'm always wrong yesterday...  Today, it's the best I've...  Well, anyway, it's not bad, certainly not for an hour of gospel.  or it seems lees bad than yesterday.  whatever.  i mean, come on, all cooke and no stirrers?  kinda defeats the purpose of the doubly-eponymous album cover.  yeah...  i'm too tired for rationalizing.  But my rationalization previous was, well, i'm putting together albums, and the way it is, it is not album worthy, so...  anyway, not sure if it is now.  like i've said, i still have to hear it myself...  so i'm sure tomorrow i'll think so highly of this opinion.  but tonight the opinion is high, so:

Tuesday, August 3, 2004 5:02 AM

So, yesterday, I write, I should really learn all the lyrics to the Sam Cooke with the Soul Stirrers album.  And that, eventually, I should record it "some day."  So... What do I do?  I go and record it the next day, without even knowing all the lyrics yet.  But that's me.  And this, is an hour of gospel, possibly my only hour, but whatever.  Anyway, here it is.  Of course, the disclaimer at the top is completely unnecessary.  But I feel wierd about recording a bunch of songs that I feel if not, technically, "believe."  But feel them I did, and well, hopefully someone else will too... Provided they want to listen to me sing for an hour straight a bunch of gospel/soul songs that were recorded long before I was born, and don't really know that well...  Well, you've been warned..

I also don't know how well the VBR is going to work on this, as it is long and i had problems before...  But again, "f" it...  I can't very well curse right after recording this.  Well, i guess I fucking can...  Anyway, back to going through the rest of my music, soon I'll have some albums together.  Don't know if I can be all jethrotullish and have one song fill a whole CD, that is, if I made this a CD...  Which I probably won't.  Goddamn, i gotta lot of songs...  Fucking a.  Anyway, back to that.

i've totally been in a recording mood...  anyway, fuck y'all, this one came out good... i think. a lucky mix and then i just took out 3 crackles at the end, otherwise just a lucky mix.  i dig it, its got acc. guitar and vocal:  [EDIT - Wednesday, July 28, 2004 2:56 AM  - Oh, the song is a cover of "(La La La) Means I Love You" by the Delfonics.  'Cause if Cam'ron [[edit, ghostface? is it "holla"? i don't know, fuck it -- Wednesday, July 28, 2004 9:08 PM]] can go and do what he did, I , at the very least, can to do this.   Much respect to The Delfonics.  Oh, and while I'm at it, of course, "bounce, rock, skate, roll" is a cover of Vaughn Mason & Crew [[EDIT AGAIN - Tuesday, August 3, 2004 9:30 AM, I mean, Vaughan Mason & Crew]]--but that's just me fucking around, i really like this interpretation, I think it's better than Cam'ron's, but of course, not better than the original.  Oh, and while I'm at the props, much respect to the true Ace, Andrew Rogers, on the tab--I was just looking in general for always-impeccable, Rogers tabs and found that he had tabbed this song.  Then I just knew I had to record.]

I'm fixing the links from July 12.  Those links are all wrong, i just kept forgetting to fix them.  Anyway, now that I'm editing, I'm going to have to save an original...  This is why I've put this off...  So, let's see, i'll call this file newold1?  Nope, just "new old.htm" anyway, tired, smack smack...  Consider them fixed.

Eh...  a bit of comedy, i was thinking of going to an open mic and proform tonight, but i never feel i have the time... anyway, i'm working on something else, which quickly becomes something else, something no longer on topic.  But i'd been thinking about how much of a good performance is confidence and comfort with the material, so maybe i should record this, as its got a few "lines" here and there, but really just for review... also as editting for the piece i was writing, I wanted to hear what it sounded like.  But of course, it sounds like its being recorded in a garage while a dryer is running, while a fan is blowing (as the dryer makes my room/studio/uh-garage hotter than it already is galdarnitt), and ...  Yeah...  the filmmaker's story.

Sunday, July 18, 2004 1:01 PM

So...  I went shopping.  And I haven't gone food shopping in over a few weeks.  Ain't spending nothing on the credit card, cause I know I ain't got no job, and I know times is tough, and they (the 'rents) didn't care too much for the spendin' I was doin' before.  And i got these new glasses, and damn times is tough, and that's why i ain't got not time to record, don't feel like doin much celebratin', but i do got the blues.  damn i got the blues, so i go to this place where i know this girl will be workin', and they didn't play any good music so i didn't sing along to nothin', so she didn't even recognize me, and i didn't even get to be in her line, i even stuck around for a while, tryin' to get into it, but she didn't open the line until, naturally, i gave up and just went to the available one, i was partly directed by a helpful other worker, so i had to, and then i saw her open up a line soon after (cause naturally then everyone wanted to pay), and then I saw her and i looked at her, but she didn't look up, don't blame her, can't imagine she would normally, but I kept looking, and wish I was in her line...  Till I ran the credit card and damn, it was out of credit, thankfully i had the back-up, but now i'll have to talk to the 'rents, who at least will be sympathetic to my not having a job, and cool with this food purchase, and happy with the fact i ain't use it in general, but the glasses cost a bit, two pair (sunglasses too) and that's what musta overdrawn it, damn i wish i wasn't such a burden to them, and everyone.  So i feel especially embarassed, as I must use the back-up, and then i'm glad i'm not in her line, and i'm glad i didn't flirt with her, and then have it say cancelled, damn...  And then i realize I can't flirt with her, and that's part of the why i haven't shopped in a while as well (as I only shop on this day of the week, when I know she'll be working), cause I ain't got no job, i ain't got nothin' to offer no woman, and damn, i'm glad there wasn't a song on the radio, for she might have noticed me, and then seen my broke-ass have to go to the back-up...  So...  If that ain't the settin' for the blues.  Oh, and no worries about the primary card, it'll get charge back on it, i'm not even worried, i stocked up for the winter time, i ain't gonna need to buy anything again for at least a few weeks...  Still, damn, I wish I could go up to her and take her out, and had a big ol' sack, 'cause she doesn't seem like the girl who'll cost you more than that, and that's a damn good thing, as that's all i'll spend on a woman (just as it is understandable that a man will pay drinks for a woman) is to maybe smoke her out, and we'd spend some time listenin' to some Gladys, cause you know that's the first thing we said to each other, i was singing in the store, as i sing anywhere where's there is music, and i don't care, and i guess she musta heard me, hell the whole store usally gets an earful, like i care, when its a good song, anyway, she was singin' to herself so quiet, i couldn't even hear her, i don't know if she has a voice, but they usually do when they sing to the themselves, they being me as well, maybe, i don't know, but anyway, i asked her who it was, and she blushed, or got shy, however you want to, and she said Alicia Keys, who i think, and said, "well, she's no Gladys Knight" and she smiled, and agreed, and after that, we'd chit chat about music, while i try not to stumble about too much as I get flustered by her smile, which she reserves for me, i don't know, maybe, anyway, i like her... but it don't matter... i can't talk to her, i ain't got no job, i ain't got no money, i only got the blues.

I've been trying to think of a comedy routine for quite a while, the problem is i always forget everything when i get up there...  Of course, i have no problem with music and performing that...  So, i just realized, i need to make my "jokes" rhyme, and then i can remember them.  And hell, even if they're not funny, at least i'll remember my entire bit.  So, here's the first one i thought up.  Now of course, back to the frictionless grind, that leaves me in perpetual motion (that's a good thing).

Ah, the final chapter to Perversity2.  Finally, we can all get on with our lives.  You must excuse me, i have work to do.

I felt like answering another awbvious triva question...  i think i'll keep doing that, but i can't promise i'll keep posting updates in what's new...  in fact, i'll just say here when I've stopped bothering to answer questions...  well, i don't know, i hate getting ahead of myself, i've done it too often.  fine, i'll post when it's updated again.  or i'll post when i decide to not post ...  well, that's counter...  alright, well i'll post eventually, either that i'm not posting or...[thwack!]

Man...  I hate be direct.  But I like being honest.  So...  A new section, a new page, that may get more updates or, maybe not, you know me.  But if you don't fuck... I guess you're going to find out.  I almost don't want to put this link.  Could be a really good page...  Could end up being my ruin...  Or i could be paranoid.  Oh, i hope so.  Anyway, what's the point of being about honesty if your not forthwith with it.  Here goes.

Awbvious Trivia, everything no one bothers to ask about me, because they don't care.  Hence "trivia."  But I'm telling anyway, cause, what the fuck, what else is there to do?  Besides, i dislike the glossary idea, limited in direction yet requires dedication, i'm not joyce or even richard adams.  i ain't got that kinda time, and besides, i like faqs, even when they aren't fa.

sorry people, i've been busy, and i don't know how much time i'll have...  but anyway, here's the songs from the album in mp3 form.  And the lyrics.  But first!  This took me much more time than I had.  But i did it, i did an instrumental track, all a capela, for Where the Party At, which i did a month or so ago.  Is it an instrumental if its all a capela?  Regardless.  Here it is, mixed with the previous vocals and as just an "instrumental."

I just mailed it... i'd been working on it the last few days...  i actually cleaned up and made all the songs sound good, 'cause, like she matters, unlike uquitous you, so...  anyway, i don't know if i want you to get it before she does...  but you don't exist, which makes things easier.  besides, she has the impeccable, unexplicable honor of having the entire album devoted to her.  Hence the title.  And all these songs are 16-bit, not 24-bt wav files, all ready to burn.  So make your own CD.  And listen as an old, young man (25, but whatever the number, it always feels old) makes a music so naked, you'll feel embarassed for me.  Whatever, I don't care.  It's my best work so far.  Some 45 minutes of enjoyable listening pleasure.  I knew it wouldn't be worthy of her, it couldn't be, but she always makes me try to want to fail with gusto.  And this... actually... isn't a failure...  the rest of my music, honestly, i wouldn't really listen to on my own, with no self-provocation, just for my own enjoyment...  it's kinda hard to expect others to, when one feels that way...  but i keep pushin...  and then i felt this inspiration, a girl can fuck up my life more than anything else, but evidentally can inspire me to create greatness better than any other intoxicant.  Well, this girl.  For I've never done as much for any other, no other's managed anything like this.  Anyway, its a good CD (really, all my other stuff... eh, but this is good).  So, here it is, the appropriately titled:

You know what May 13 is right?  M-13?  So celebrate--by the way, i just made that up, but if it catches on, webanthropologists will know who started it.  Anyway, i just really noticed that now, but its funny, is all, because i just recorded, well, Mary Jane, covering rick james...  suppressing urge to follow with now cliche catch phrase.  but that's not dave's fault, blame, to be politically correct "caucasians," specifically anglo saxons, more specifically, wasps, more specifically george bush.  george bush is to blame.

Anyway, the mary i think about, when i sing about this...  a weird synegism, at least transference.  usually i'm singing about love and it turns into the doze-ya, not the onther way around (not all the way around).  when quinn the eskimo gets here all the bitches gonna run to him, or is it everybody's gonna wanna a doze?  Could be dos. but fuck it.  anyway, dos, de lado de uno.  anyway, not mate, but...

what the fuck, this isn't my green room.  anyway, i did this song over... and over... and whatnot for about 45 min, so about 20 takes, who knows how far i got each time.  I was thinking maybe i'd mix different takes, take best parts from certain... no.  waaaaay too much work.  so i just kept recording till i got it satisfactory in one take.  I took the mic channel (vocals and harpoon, in A, in head gear) and straight up equal mixed it with the guitar channel.  I fuck up on words, but the harmony, guitar, and harp were good enough so i let it slide with a spoonerism or two.  Hell, its all fitting for M-13.

SO FRESH FROM THE OVEN, you'll need to let it cool.  So, let it cool.

Then click on it.  I recorded it tonight.  Just fucking about on the harmonica.  Harmonicas actually, G and A.  I get interrupted at one point, and you can hear the washing machine, but it provides an alright backbeat.  Anyway, it fits the leitmotif.  it's a twenty minute o-rhythm, but with harmonica, for a first, instead of my accoustic guitar.   i liked it--that is, i managed to sit through listening to all of it, right after i recorded it.  A good litmus.  Anyway, its just harmonica, but if you're down:

Oh, and not as important, same over-minute rap as below, except slower and cleaner, but with no beat, part of the march recovery process: awbvious -- over minute rap slow n clear no beat.mp3

Wednesday, May 5, 2004 5:17 AM

alright, a new chapter in perversity, 21.  Also, a cover of a william bell song, not sure if i'm satisfied with this take, but its definitely a cover i might want to do for this album, Everyday will be like a holiday.  And I got an over-minute rap, with beat, that i recorded a while ago (march), but compiled today, i lost about 80 recordings when my program crashed, this long take was one of the 20 or so that survived.  i slapped it together for a mix.

ah tis good, now, to sleep.  i got a line from my frauline (who's so fine), of course her internet is limited, so she gave me her address as requested...  and now that i've finally finished my side project, just have to "turn it in," i can think about what i'm going to give her.  Made my day naturally, anyway, right before i got the email, i was feeling my lonesomeness and recorded, an hour later, and i wouldn't have.

Because, now, if there are any buyers, i'm sorry, but i'm not selling any more.  It's a cover of a chilean folklore song.

Thursday, March 25, 2004 7:06 PM

I find Stevie has songs that fit well with my vocal tastes.  Thus, whatelse, another Stevie Wonder cover.  That's three covers of Stevie Wonders songs...  Anyway this has i think 4 maybe 5 vocal tracks tossed together.  Its really fascinating how one of the tracks in particular i deviated from the source, or excentuated different layers, so it sounds almost like a lead vocal with a bunch of back-up singers.  But its just me, singing nice and loud as i just woke up and thus people are not yet asleep.  And i am quite surprised how well it came together, there was some harmonica tracks, but it was a bad key...  anyway, i'm finding i can do a lot with layers of vocals.  Enjoy.

Sunday, March 21, 2004 6:20 AM

the soul is outta control.  good song title...  anyway, i've got over a hundred open sound files right now.  100 different takes.  over a month old,   unnamed, unfiled...  mostly soul covers.   sigh, anyway, occassionally, i actually stop and save a file or two.  and now, i finally got around to converting to mp3.  So here, the first two are Stevie Wonder covers, and last is a lesser-known Temptations [edit: Sunday, March 21, 2004 2:33 PM; Four Tops, i'm a fucking idiot] cover, enjoy.  The last, i believe was right before the party where i was, for the last time, to meet with...  Well, let's just say that i sometimes keep in mind actual people when singing, and this song, in that--and many other ways--is "for her."  then i quote it to end the tgr chapter 11.  Except i left out the lyric "pay that no mind."  You can excuse me, as it was late, after the party, and i was still fairly anebriated.  Anyway, before and after, this is still a song for her, Do What You Gotta Do.

I've been a busy bee.  or beaver... but not beaver, as i've not been perverse... actually, i have... but i have not decided what to do about the most recent chapter.  i don't like the fact that i wrote it.  so... i didn't even finish it, i just got so far...  anyway.  oh fuck it.  might as well upload it.   so more perversion.

and why i came into here.  I have two songs for you.  The first, i really like this, i've already listened to it a few times, its a bad recording in some ways.  you'll hear a few microphone glitches, or whatever they are, they are probably software issues, not enough processor, something.  but its such a good recording otherwise.

i did it yesterday, well, the day before, as i was asleep all of yesterday.  okay, two days before.  oo, its the ides of march. fuck when i recorded it, it was sometime within the last few days, and it was like at 3 or 4 in the afternoon, so i could be as loud as i wanted, no one was home, i don't believe.  so i really let it go, i really like the part that goes "bring down power."  Anyway, its a Nina Simone cover, i've already done it once--well a few times, but once put online.  i like to perform this live, i should video it, but whatever.  as it is... i am glad i have this recording even though it screws up in three places but its kind of cool how it says "the devil."

says/plays/whater.

whater/whatever/what'er

the other one is a recording with "the fabulous joe stein."  just of legal age, 18, and he plays "lead" guitar on this track.  He also does accompaniment on the chorus vocals.  he does the sweet little solo at the end, where he picks individual strings while i do the chords.  its actually a pretty good recording.  and i haven't done much mo-fo lately.

oh, the links, right.

Wednesday, March 10, 2004 8:31 AM

Alright...  here's how it went down, i recorded georgia in four takes.  The first one, all vocal.  The second, all harmonica.  The third and fourth vocal with harmonica, alternating.  Of them all, i liked the fourth one.  I stopped, clearly, because i was satisfied.  But then i tried mixing the third and fourth together--which produces the next song i'm linking to.  So, then, of coures, i think, fuck it, why not mix all four together.  mix take 1 into 2, mix in 3, then mix in 4--and you get the last of the songs i'm linking to.  i am tired.  i dont know how good they /if any/ are.  but i'd go for the last one, in my sleep addled state, i think its the best of the bunch, tomorrow might think them all crap.  I'm no Ray Charles, i'm not even blind....  And to think 2 days ago i had the audacity to cover another blind man's songs.  coincidence.

Monday, March 8, 2004 4:09 PM

i wanted to take advantage of the being awake during hours when the rest of the world is either awake, or, better yet, at work, so i could finally sing the song loud enough...  anyway, its probably my best cover of this song, and i've covered it many times.  just one track, all a acapela.  You know, Cloud Nine, Temptations.  i finally sang as loud as i can when i drive in my car, i think i'll do another cover while i'm still brazen.

More perversity 2.  She's naked.  And beautiful.  Chapter 10, the link's close below.

Oh damn, the obligation...

Umm...

If i never cry again
It'll be too soon
if i never sigh again
roses will not bloom
if i never get high again
i'll never leave this gloom
if i always get high again
i'll never leave this room
if i never shy again
i'll never hurt inside again
if i never die again
i'll have died too many times

For i don't care where i belong
or how to compose a proper song
or how not to call a water pipe a bong
or how to keep a rhythm or rhyme scheme

I'm so pinche lazy
I try not to be be
But i am.

There, fulfilled.

Sunday, February 15, 2004 4:45 AM

Saturday, December 13, 2003 8:58 PM

I gotta stop writing in the greenroom, and start doing something in this "room."  All i need right now is a little focus and maybe i can start finishing some of those many projects.  I am very glad that i am so antisocial, else i wouldn't have a Saturday night to spend fixing things and being productive.  I've vowed to myself never to let work slow down my productivity, not to let it drain me, and right now, i think i'm at a good equilibrium for work time, money, and productivity--provided energy stays constant.

That said, this isn't the green room--or however i feel like spelling it today.  Instead, here i'm going to start announcing changes, and more importantly, I'1l be making them.

But first, my most recent creation, and its vocal, but not musical.  Some might call it comedy.

Sunday, November 30, 2003 4:30 PM

yo, i need to make mp3s of all these, i know, these are monster size files, but already in proper format for burning onto a cd, which is what i plan to do with them.  You want an awbvious CD?  dl these.  Its two CDs worth, to fit, put song numbers 1-34, song for home for the holidays, on one, and the rest on the other.  That's assuming you want the "preludes" where i talk a minute about each song.  I did one for each for a number of reasons, but most importantly so you know odd number tracks are talknig, even tracks are songs.  I consider it a sort-of one-man concert.  i just sat down, and for two days straight, recorded all the songs i had lyrics and chords to.

Well, i gotta wait for all these damn files to convert to mp3, but i got a few songs for you.  The first i just finished recording.  it only took me, oh, 28 attempts to get the lyrics right.  Even still, i fuck up on the word "wimp" came out as "llwimp."  But considering that was the worst, i'll take it as a bit of "raw authenticity" or something.  anyway, cover of the pharcyde, obviously.

awbvious -- passin me by cover.mp3

eBefore then i did a cover of piece of my heart, the song written by Ed Cobb, made popular by janis joplin, i'm doing the erma franklin version.  There's three recordings here, one that has a massive mix "full mix"of all the vocal tracks, and two guitar tracks, one with picking the other with strumming.  The other two are one vocal track and one guitar track (the picking).  For the first one, the vocal track is all one take, the best of the many many vocal takes.  The second one is actually me picking the best lines and parts of all the other vocal tracks, and adding to it the guitar (picking).  I think i prefer the second one, even though i know its "false"--in so much as its not all true one take, but you can't really tell its not all one take like the previous one...  I like them both, so i'm putting them both.  The full mix, i don't really like, but its got a lot of mixing, and a lot of stuff i threw out for the two versions i do like.

and a cover song, of smokey robinson's cruisin.  one complete take for both vocals, and they were mixed on the spot.  so... don't know if that makes it good or just what i can do in the time i got.

Okay, so i split up the greenroom a bit, and i did some work on my movie critiques...  i'm thinking of being a critic--there's sadly so few good ones out there.  I've obviously got a ways still to go, but a few are given reviews.

Okay, okay, I spent the last two (three?) days working on this.  Again this is not a how-to on making a heat-gun vaporizer, but it is the story of how one was made.  But it's fiction.  The pictures are clever forgeries.  Doesn't really exist, its a myth I say!  Don't try this at home!  Solely for entertainment purposes!

Sigh.  Gotta do it.  awbvious -- hgv.htm

Thursday, September 18, 2003 1:28 PM

woah... i'm a bit ...  Well, anyway, at least i've been productive.  I updated Romance.  And the Video is up now, as well.  I'm going to finish with a script version of Shit, soon enough.  I hate showing video of myself.  I assure you when i have my shirt off it is not out of vanity.  For i know what is considered appealing.  It is more likely because the piece is of a self-relevatory nature (and, again, not out of vanity, but because my best window to the world is the one i'm forced to look out of).  Anyway, know you know, there's video (nearly all .wmv files--which means you need windows media player or a recent version of winamp or some other compatable player).

Alright, i haven't yet (by the way, fuck strunk and white--alright is a word).  I haven't yet recorded this, but i plan to soon.  in the tradition of lodi dodi, aint nothing but a tea thang, and here we go, two of which are unfinished; I have the lyrics to No eyez on me.  I just need to record it.  Enjoy... took me a while to write, part of what i was doing when the computer was down--had to do the first draft, completely from memmory of the lyrics--did some fine tuning these last two days, and well, i think its good.

Wednesday, September 10, 2003 8:02 AM

As promised in my greenroom, I updated the Text sections.

Let's see...  What's new.   Well.  There's this.  I've been away... a little bit of sabattical, i'll explain in my greenroom.  Oh, I finally finished the "doorway"/icon.  150 layers.  150 different shapes, each one touching/overlapping the one before it.  Took me a very long time, was working on it on and off for a month or two--except when on my sabattical... or is it sabbatical?  No, sabattical looks more right.  Righter.  Rather.

thegreenroom 13.png
thegreenroom 13.gif (just in case your browser can't read .png--the quality is worse, more bad, badder, rather)

Oh, and part of the delay was i had to be organically motivated whenever i was working on it--would only be appropriate.

awbvious -- luck be a lady cover.mp3
awbvious -- orhysong smokin leftovers.mp3

when i get a taste of green, i needs to record.  The first one is obviously a cover song (from Guys and Dolls--i did a 5 vocal harmony slap mix), and the second is an orhysong, which means mofo (in the typical style, accoustic guitar and vocals, one take, all impromptu--and organically motivated).  Enjoy.

Sunday, June 29, 2003 4:50 AM

I've finally converted all the songs i've recorded from 5/25/2003 to 6/25/2003 to mp3.  All are mofo, unless mentioned.

today it was necessary that i be productive.  In a material, physical sense...  So, of course, i was productive in only a uselessly creative way.  I recorded a song, and drew a picture.  The picture is called "the golfer" and the song is a cover of the A-ha song, "take on me" all vocals, i recorded myself 5 times, then slap-mixed it togther.

3 songs, a compendium, and that's it!  No more for chillin.  anyway, i always think of her when i hear the song "just to see her" by smokey robinson.  So much so that i had to record it.  2 vocal track, a capela, enjoy.  Dedicated to her, now i'm going on with my life.

I was planning on sitting on this, but hey, its new.  Fresh off the tracks.  Two pitches, two different recordings of the song, but i never planned to use them in the same final composition.  But hey, here it is, and the lyrics...  I wish the title wasn't what it was, what it is what it is, and well, i better upload this before i'm late for class.

Its weird, i do a lot of drawing, i draw nearly every day.  But i have no drawings online, just because i hadn't gotten the freakin scanner software to run with my photo-editting app...  I finally discover that not only do i have to add the drivers and whatnot to the scanners and cameras in imaging devices in control panel (i did that long ago), but i also have to specify whichs apps will receive the f'n twain shnizapple, within the freakin properties.  Whatever, dude, so over it.  Here's a drawing i did today, fresh off the scanner, line1.

New song, recorded tonight, I had this albulm of Donovan that had Candy Man on it.  I think I read somewhere that Sammy Davis Jr. did a version of this song as well.  I like this song so much, I recorded myself 5 times, then mixed them all together.  awbvious -- candyman mixed cover.mp3

I didn't want to post this...  But i must reveal.  Might as well.  Better now than later.  awbvious -- orhysong for Chillin Nature.mp3

Oh, and you know what "orhysong" means, right?  Well, the "o" stands for organic.  You know what that means.  "Rhy" stands for rhythm, as in rhythm guitar.  An orhythm is an organically motivated accoustic guitar instrumental.  When I add lyrics, as impromptu as the chords I'm playing, it becomes a song.  An orhysong.  And this song is for the one who was on my mind, i felt every word for her.  When you have "nothing," all you can give is a song.

Monday, May 26, 2003 11:30 PM

"cause i'm a born loser" is really not the title i'm after...  Okay, "i meet this girl."  that's the title.  Here's the song, in mp3 form, awbvious -- i meet this girl.mp3, and the lyrics, awbvious -- i meet this girl.htm wrote it today, recorded it in one take.

Here's two songs i created yesterday.  It was made with a software program for the synth and beat.  I also sample a song, Cool Jerk, by The Capitols.  But i have no intention of selling these songs.  [EXCISED] and awbvious -- orhythm with electronic beat 2.mp3.  I've just been futzing around with the audio app, you know...  Still not creating anything I can make into a beat for a rap, but getting closer.

[EDIT Sunday, September 24, 2006 6:13 PM -- because of my recent decision to offer my songs royalty free until the end of 2006, i'm taking out the song with the sample of original audio.]

What's new?  I'll tell you what's new.  This is what's new.  The "New" page.  This is where i put up everything new.  I make art faster than i can organize it.  So, this will mostly be a lot of random links, to my latest writing or music or whatever piece.  And whenever something of note gets updated or uploaded; this will be where you'll find out about it.
